IWEB 2009 names Best Paper Award winners

The Web Handling Research Center at Oklahoma State University held its 10th International Conference on Web Handling on June 7-10. The event, better known as IWEB, is held every two years and is sponsored by the WHRC and its industry sponsors: AET Films, Avery Dennison, DuPont, Fife Cor., Goss International, Inc., Kimberly-Clark, Mitsubishi Polyester Films, Procter & Gamble, Rockwell Automation and 3M Co.

The program for this year’s conference featured two keynotes and 30 papers divided in four topic sessions. Keynote 1 – The Ups and Downs and Thrills of the Space Program – John Bennett Herrington, Commander, USN, ret. and former NASA astronaut; and Keynote 2 – Predicting Web Wrinkles on Rollers – Keith Good, Oklahoma State University.

Session 1, Winding – “Measurement of Nip Induced Tension and Contact Stresses,” Balaji Kandadai and Keith Good, Oklahoma State University.
Session 2, Web Dynamics & Tension Conrol – “Modeling and Control of Web Velocity and Tension: An Industry/University Perspective on Issues of Importance,” Dan Carlson, Prabhakar Pagilla, and Mark Weaver, 3M Co., Oklahoma State University, Rockwell Automation.
Session 3, Air Entrainment, Traction, Surface & Slitting Mechanics – “Measurement of Web Surface Profiles Using Fringe Projection,” Hongbing Lu, Vinay Bhumannavar, Junfeng Liang, and Yao Ren, Oklahoma State University.
Session 4, Web Mechanics – “Lateral Dynamics of Non-Uniform Webs,” Ron Swanson, 3M Co.
