Terrific reference materials
February 21, 2008
As we continue our discussions about substrate secrets, we will begin to expand into various substrate properties, manufacturing methods and structure-property relationships. While I have been studying and experimenting in this area for some time, I also do a lot of reading and have been working on my library for quite some time. I will be using these texts as references and, if possible, you should try and obtain copies. Several are quite old, and I assume out of print. However, I have been having great success obtaining the reference books I need/want from the various used booksellers on the Internet. I have been surprised at the number of books which come from industrial libraries which have been sold off as the research institutes have been closed, I assume from consolidation of various companies.
Some of the better ones to look for are:
Plastics Film Technology by W.R.R. Park, Van Nostrand Reinhold Company, 1969
Structured Polymer Properties: the Identification, Interpretation, and Application of Crystalline Polymer Structure by Robert J. Samuels, available from Books on Demand
The Structure and Technology of Polymer Films, Vols. I & II, edited by Orville J. Sweeting, Wiley-Interscience, 1968 and 1971 respectively
Of course there are a great number of technical papers to use as reference materials as well, and I will reference them when I use them.
Don't forget to offer your own favorite reference books as I am always looking for good reference books and papers to use.
