What I did on my German vacation
June 17, 2008
Now for some completely self-serving blather... Be forewarned! Having recovered from several days of cruising the drupa show in Dusseldorf, I'm now prepared to subject you, dear blog reader, to the 21st century equivalent of the "vacation slide show." It's the result of taking a couple days to visit my daughter, Carina, who's teaching English at a technical college in Augsburg, near Munich. So, here goes. Feel free to close your Internet browser now...

Augsburg is the second oldest city in Germany, having been a Roman outpost since Caesar Augustus's time around the birth of Christ. Here's some stone decoration dug up near the present-day local cathedral. Not sure what these guys are doing, though.

A shot of the locally famous fountain that adorns the Augsburg City Hall plaza. Okay, so, water is spouting from the woman's, err, you know. Carina was not able to elaborate on exactly why the fountain has this particular design.

The aforementioned Augsburg City Hall

Left: Canals left over from the Romans in the Altstadt (Old Town). Right: Funky ceramic garden ornaments in the form of ravens for sale at an Altstadt touristy gift shop.

Apparently, the hottest German fashion trend includes wearing
suspenders to hold up your bikini bottom.

Finally...separated at birth? Left: A marionette who plays the Bad Guy in a children's story from the Augsburg Puppet Museum. Right: Yours truly.
