How Labelexpo Americas plans to get even better
April 14, 2008

I met last week with Michael Hatton, group comm mgr for Labelexpo, and got a preview of this fall's Americas show in Rosemont.

Now, granted, overall the event will be a day shorter than in the previous two editions, running Sept. 9-11 from 9 am to 5 pm each day. But show organizer Tarsus has some cool ideas to make what is arguable now our industry's biggest event (attendance and exhibitor-wise) even better.

1. The Digital Print Experience will occupy Hall F (that's to your right as you enter Rosemont's main lobby). Big-name exhibitors such as HP Indigo, Epson, EFI Jetrion, Xeikon and Kodak will be grouped together along with related suppliers (digital-print substrates, inks, laser diecutting, etc.) to make a bold statement about the impact of digital printing and converting on labelmaking.

2. The Smart Zone will be adjacent to the Digital Print Experience, featuring RFID suppliers as well as other "smart" and "active" labelmaking systems and materials providers.

3. The Converting & Finishing Solutions area rounds out Hall F with, appropriately enough, suppliers of dies, diecutting, embossing, stamping and other processes for post-press work. The emphasis here is also on the growing fields of narrow-web flexible packaging and folding carton converting that many labelmakers are seriously investigating.

4. Gathering on the "Green" will be an open area with dedicated displays of all kinds of substainable, environmentally related products. No specific companies' booths will be here but rather single exhibits similar to an interactive museum.

Because the show opens on a Tuesday with many attendees flying in the day before, Tarsus will make getting your badge easier by having the Rosemont registration area already open on that Monday. Also, there will be satellite registration desks at major show hotels so you can pick up your badge and hit the show floor first thing on the morning of Sept. 9.

Sounds pretty cool and convenient. I'm looking forward to it.
