Converters Expo on the Frozen Tundra
January 11, 2008
No, not really. The first Converters Expo, held at the Lambeau Field Atrium in Green Bay, WI, yesterday certainly appears to be a great success by the traditional measures of attendee numbers and exhibitor interest. Organized by the regional association Converting Influence, the one-day event drew almost 60 exhibitors and about 300 attendees overall. Products ranged from all manner of machinery and components to converting operations (mainly tissue and towel, no surprise there considering the Fox River Valley location) to contract-converting and contract-packaging services.

Green Bay's American FlexPack kicked off the program with a breakfast-festooned skybox overlooking Lambeau Field. The converter provides everything from package design to printing, pouchmaking and contract packaging for towelettes, liquids and gels.

I also met up with several other converters such as Chad Abel of custom sheeter Northwoods Paper Converting (Beaver Dam); Kristin Manteufel of private-label food and medical-packaging maker Waldan Paper Services (Oshkosh); and Jeff Armstrong and Scott Gehl of paperboard laminator dura-fibre (Menasha). Look for future stories in Converting on these companies in the coming months.
OK, so I'd be less than completely honest to say that the only reason I went to Green Bay in January was for the Converters Expo. It, of course, was being held at Lambeau Field (home of my beloved Packers AND only two days before they play the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC playoffs). So, here are a couple shots of the "Shrine to Curly Lambeau."

Skybox view of Lambeau Field, where the Packers will take on the Seahawks tomorrow. Crews were setting up for a "pep rally" to be held today. Wow, that's a phrase I haven't heard since high school.

A readable, albeit inverted, view of the field painting.
As I like to say, regarding any affinity I might possibly have for the Chicago Bears, "I only work in Illinois; I live in Wisconsin."

Susan Stansbury commented:
We're so pleased that you and virtually everyone found the Converters Expo to be useful and a great location, too! We already have more than half the number of this year's expo signed up for next year, to be on March 5, 2009. - ConvertingInfluence.com
