Wal-Mart Packaging Scorecard draws only 10% response

-- Converting Magazine, 12/18/2007

As of Dec. 5, only 10 percent of Wal-Mart suppliers have input company data into the Wal-Mart Packaging Scorecard, says the FPA Sustainability Update newsletter. That data includes 10 percent of Wal-Mart’s 200,000 SKUs. Data within the scorecard that is used to calculate the scores is not yet complete; therefore, scores are not yet accurate.

Feb. 1, 2008, is the deadline Wal-Mart has set to have all SKUs submitted into its Retail Link system. Brand owners of products sold at Wal-Mart are responsible for filling out the scorecard but may rely on packaging suppliers for information about transportation distance, material structures, recyclability and renewable energy use.
