New York-based Westvaco Corp. acquires a majority interest in Alfred Wall AG, European supplier of packaging for a range of consumer products. Based in Graz, Austria, Wall operates six packaging plants in four European countries.
Wright Plastics, a manufacturer of blown polyethylene film and bags, is on the auction block. In business since 1958, the company has operations in Prattville, Ala., and Atlanta. Management recently stopped operations in both plants.
Cambridge, UK-based Global Graphics aligns its nine prepress hardware subsidiaries and printing software companies worldwide into two divisions. According to the company, it aligns itself "to reflect the integration of its businesses, consolidate its position as a leading supplier to graphic arts industry OEMs, and position the company for further growth." Global Graphics supplies printing, electronic document and workflow software and prepress hardware.
Bekaert acquires the Specialty Films business of Material Sciences Corp. (MSC/SFI) for $122 million. The acquisition includes all coating and laminating operations of MSC/SFI in San Diego and the company's distribution network. The company converts solar control and safety window film, and industrial film for the automotive, building and other markets. The Bekaert Group is headquartered in Belgium.
Huhtamaki, Finland-based global provider of specialty packaging, adopts the Huhtamaki name across all of its U.S. operations. The transition aligns the U.S. packaging operations acquired during the past three years, including Sealright, Chinet, Packaging Resources and Graphic Packaging
