Converted plastic-packaging maker Zaraplast, Sao Paulo, Brazil, installs the country's first PrintVision/9000NT automatic web-inspection system from AVT Advanced Vision Technology, Atlanta. Hebron, Ky.-based Somerville Packaging installs its second seven-color Komori-Chambon web-offset press at its folding-carton facility. The first OR32 press was installed in Oct. 1998 as part of the Hebron facility start-up. With 100,000-sq-ft, the plant houses two web-offset presses and various finishing capabilities, including gluing, promotional labeling and random ink-jet labeling.
Schaumburg, Ill.-based filmmaker Pliant Corp. purchases five 59-in.-dia. surface/center/gap winders for its blown-film lines at the converter's Danville, Ky., plant. The units, from Reifenhauser, Inc., Ipswich, Mass., are equipped with adhesive-less transfer and fully automated roll handling systems. In other news, Pliant donates more than 7,500 lbs of plastic film to aid victims of the January 2001 Indian earthquake. The material will be used in constructing temporary housing and for other needs of the survivors.
