Making Change

Staff -- Converting Magazine, 5/1/2001

Plassein Packaging Corp., Willington, Conn., celebrates its first anniversary with a subtle name change to Plassein Intl. to better reflect its corporate depth. The company was formed last year through the acquisition of six film converters: Key Packaging Industries (Salem, N.H.), Marshall Plastic Film (Martin, N.H.), Nor Baker (Newmarket, Ont.), Plastical Industries (Spartanburg, S.C.), Rex Intl. (Thomasville, N.C.) and Transamerican Plastics (Ontario, Calif.). Plassein has eight plants across North America, generating $180 million in 2000 sales.

Manufacturer of blown coextruded and monofilms Uniplast Films sells its Jacksonville, Fla., converting plant to PCL Packaging Corp., Oakville, Ont., Canada. Uniplast has two manufacturing facilities in Palmer, Mass., and one each in Harrisville, R.I., and Columbus, Ind. The company also has two plants in Orillia, Ont. It recently entered the five-layer coextruded film business.
