Amcor opens Irish medical flex-pack plant

Amcor Flexibles, a division of Amcor, opens its new US$7 million, purpose-built, flex-pack converting facility at AF Sligo, Ireland.
The 25,000-sq-ft plant feaures new printing, pouchmaking and slitting equipment in a clean-room manufacturing environment on a greenfield site. It embraces best environmental practices with solar panels, low-energy lighting and rainwater harvesting.
“This investment and expansion of the Sligo operation reinforces Amcor’s commitment to the medical, pharmaceutical and personal-care markets and is in line with our global strategy to grow in our core market segments both locally and globally,” says Amcor Flexibles Healthcare president Peter Brues.
Ten additional jobs—about 10% of the site’s total workforce—have already been created as a result of this initiative. Further planned investments will enhance the product portfolio and create an excellent platform for ongoing sustainable growth and future opportunities, Brues adds.
AF Sligo is a specialist converting site which has over the past 28 years been supplying medical technology and pharmaceutical companies with products such as short-run rollstock, MDM pouches and die-cut sheets.
