-- Converting Magazine, 8/1/2008

Proteus Packaging becomes the first US company to purchase Heidelberg's new Speedmaster XL 145 press—one of two very large format (VLF) presses Heidelberg unveiled at drupa 2008. The Franklin, WI, folding-carton converter chose a 6-color model with inline aqueous coater. Proteus plans to replace two older VLF presses with the XL 145, thanks to gains in efficiency expected with the new press.

NYC-based Advanced Digital Printing installs its second Presstek 52DI® digital press. “We saw an opportunity to expand our production of packaging materials our customers require,” says Elazar Wadler, CIO of Advanced Digital Printing. “The larger format size of the 52DI, combined with its ability to handle heavy stocks, has allowed us to significantly expand our product offerings and our revenue.”

Odena, Spain-based corrugated-packaging converter Industrias Graficas del Envase, S.L. (IGEASA) broke a new record recently, producing 60,000 litho-laminated boxes in one shift (with only three boxes scrapped) thanks to its new Bobst Visionfold 145 folder/gluer. Similar work had previously taken three shifts.
