Chilean film maker Polytex S.A. adds what is reportedly the largest blown-film line in history at its new plant in Lima, Peru.
Supplied by Gloucester Engineering, the 365-in. line's main extruder (at left) is 8 in. in diameter, 36:1 with a 1,000-hp motor. The diameter of the die is 86 in., and a sophisticated winder is said
to produce rolls with perfect edges and excellent tension. The system is expected to begin production this summer. Polytex's new plant serves as the main center for the production of geomembrane products, but the company plans to increase its product offerings soon.
“Our positive experience with Gloucester Engineering and the high quality of the equipment we bought from them was critical in our decision to choose them for this line,” says Alfredo Abujatum, president of Polytex. “Gloucester also has the best experience with geomembrane films.”
The GEC line is capable of running geomembrane liner with gauges from 5 to 25 mm in three layers. Both texturized and smooth liners are being run with rolls more than 23 ft wide, representing the largest in the industry, Polytex says.
