Unwinds & rewinds

Editor: Natalie Hasselbacher -- Converting Magazine, 8/1/2008

Surface-driven unwind

Built for high-speed production

Co.'s Model 2352 Surface Driven Unwind is said to increase output and reduce roll changeover. With production speeds capable of reaching up to 700 fpm and the ability to handle rolls as large as 4.9 ft in diameter, the Model 2352 accommodates the demands of poly bag and draw tape bag making with controlled tension and edge guiding. A center shaft stabilizes the film rolls while they advance via a cantilevered, split-roll surface drive that is efficient in following irregular surfaces. Safety and ease of operation is provided by CE compliance and PLC control. The Model 2352 can handle roll widths of up to 52 in. and 60 in. in diameter.

Automatic rewinder

Changes, unloads full rolls

Ideal for mid-web printing, laminating, and converting processes, the LRH automatic transfer rewinder is said to provide continuous roll-to-roll productivity for applications ranging from film to paper and paperboard. The LRH automatically changes and unloads full rolls, conveniently requiring minimal effort from its operator. The need to handle heavy core shafts is eliminated thanks to the model's cantilevered spindle design, while spindle deflection is not an issue because of its rigid outboard system. Complications associated with tension and web shifting that are typical of turret winders are said to be minimized by a linear design that causes the spindles to traverse horizontally. The LRH is offered in standard widths and diameters, but wider widths and specially-engineered features are also available.

Automatic winder

Handles rolls weighing up to 3,000 lbs

Co.'s fully automatic turret winder handles webs up to 72-in. wide. The winder features robust construction, automatic edge guiding, a touch screen interface and over and under winding capability. Ultimate flexibility is ensured by the winder's ability to handle rolls up to 40-in. in diameter and weighing up to 3,000 lbs. Optional flying transfer/splice modules for continuous operation are available.

Winding stands

Offer presets for diameter and production speed

Co.'s series of polyWind winding stands, which feature center and optional surface drives, is said to provide a wrinkle-free, straight build-up and correct hardness roll production. To achieve optimal functionality specific to customer requests, the versatility of each stand allows it to be combined with a range of splice arms and transfer units. With the fully automatic roll change at preset diameter and maximum production speed, operators are conveniently able to perform separate tasks.

Turret rewinder

Multi-spindle configuration

The KR Turret Rewinder eliminates the need to stop to offload finished rolls or to load empty cores with its multi-spindle turret configuration. It will automatically transfer the running web to the empty core position once the roll reaches the desired diameter or linear count. Finished rolls are removed and empty cores are added without stopping the line. Servo motors are said to heighten the level of precision in tension control. Individual job set-ups can be programmed with PLC control.

Continuous center rewinder

Offers a variety of optional features

The Model 324-C turret, a continuous center rewinder, can be configured to run a wide variety of materials including nonwovens, films, laminations, papers and board, tissue and toweling and various flexible packaging. Built in widths from 20- to 84-in. and rewind diameters of 18- to 40-in., the model has standard features which include locked-core winding, linear tracking lay-on rolls, speed capabilities of up to 1,500 fpm, and automatic cut-off and transfer.
