Three workers die in explosion at PCA paper mill

-- Converting Magazine, 8/4/2008

Three employees at the Packaging Corp. of America paper mill in Tomahawk, WI, were killed July 29 when an explosion occurred in a recycled-fiber storage tank.

The three individuals were engaged in maintenance activities on top of the tank when the explosion occurred. A fourth employee, who was standing on a platform at a lower level of the tank was injured.

The exact cause of the explosion is not known and is under investigation. The mill is one of four used by PCA to make containerboard and corrugated-packaging products.
