Is it a fake?

-- Converting Magazine, 3/1/2001

To counterfeiters safety is not an issue, maximizing their profits is. The following list comprised from the Anti-Counterfeiting Group (ACG), demonstrates why counterfeit consumer products could cost you your life.

  1. Brake shoes and linings-Regularly copied, and the brake quality varies. One batch tested took 10 times as long to stop a vehicle in an emergency.
  2. Bus brake diaphragms-Copied brake diaphragms were found prior to use, but when tested, they burst after as few as eight applications.
  3. Helicopter parts-Resulted in several accidents, and the legitimate manufacturer faced numerous court actions as a result.
  4. Aircraft brake parts-Were made from mild steel rather than tempered steel.
  5. Antibiotics-When analyzed, showed they were made from vegetable matter and talcum powder. No active ingredients.
