Italian cartonmaker SCA to install Drent Goebel VSOP press for preprinted-linerboard

Boxmaker SCA Packaging (Cornuda, Italy) purchases a 6-color VSOP 1250 press from Drent Goebel (www.drent-goebel.com) for its preprinted-linerboard production. Delivery of the press is planned for early fall 2009. The extended delivery time is due to the press's 66-in. print length, a new development for Drent Goebel.
SCA Packaging's Cornuda plant already produces preprinted linerboard but on older equipment. The choice for re-investment was between sheetfed and web-fed presses, of which sheetfed is the most commonly used technology. SCA Italy has practical experience with both technologies and clearly sees the advantages of web-fed printing so the path was set. The press has six print towers, Butler unwind and rewind splicers for continuous production and Eltromat Corecon and Web Video 3000. The choice for ink curing is still undecided.
The press (above) will print boxes for wine, liquor and consumer electronics. Because these come in many different shapes and sizes, the sleeve concept of the VSOP press fits perfectly with the demands from SCA Packaging.
