Servo-driven, narrow-web flexo press

Now film capable for expanded markets

Co. updates its largest selling press, the 2200 servo-driven narrow-web press, to be capable of handling film. This new feature enables converters to transition into the growing market for film labels. The 2200 also provides fully automated registration control and remote diagnostics for rapid troubleshooting.

High-resolution inkjet printer

On display at interpack 2008

Co. will launch its new Omega 36 HD high-resolution inkjet printing system and the SMARTCURE series of eco-friendly LED UV-curing solutions at this month’s interpack 2008 in Düsseldorf, Germany. The newest developments in co.’s environmentally-friendly inks will also be displayed. The Omega 36 HD has a resolution of 720 dpi and is suited for web applications. Its compact size makes it easy to integrate into most existing converting equipment. The SMARTCURE series reportedly has low energy consumption in comparison to lamp-based systems, a 10X longer life span, no ozone generation and lower cooling requirements.

Holographic cold foils

Printable with water-based and UV-curable inks

The new KOLDfoil HXP line of printable holographic cold foils are available in numerous patterns such as rainbow and pillars of light. KOLDfoil HXP has been formulated to allow excellent adhesion of both water-based and UV-curable inks onto the holographic foil without the need for primers, says co. The foils come in silver or gold holographic colors.

Flexographic-printing sleeves

Cut-resistant, electroconductive material

The Polyflex® RUBIN flexographic-printing sleeve is made for use with UV- and water-based inks. Its surface is resistant to cuts as well as to common inks and solvents such as acetone. Its construction enables high-quality printing, co. says, without causing axial vibration stripes. Polyflex® ONYX Solid sleeves feature a new electroconductive material that fulfills the instructions of ATEX 95 in terms of conductivity and a new thick-walled conductive layer. The sleeves are said to be ideal for solvent-based inks.

Static-control system

Displays residual electrostatic charges

The PerforMAX IQ static-control system has a new narrow-profile static bar and a microprocessor-controlled power supply. It also features an intelligent air-ionization system that includes a web-monitoring module that identifies and displays any residual electrostatic charge on the material surface downstream of the ionizer.

Safety chucks

Compensate for misaligned web edges

Co.’s sliding safety chucks can be flange- or foot-mounted, fixed or with sidelay adjustment. Sidelay adjustment chucks and rotary tables are available to compensate for misalignment and/or baggy web edges. A fixed drive shaft also is available. All models can be made for pneumatic operations.

Box handling machine

Locking system secures loads during transport

Co. introduces a new box and tray handling machine for lifting, transporting and transfering boxes and stacks of trays weighing up to 300 lbs. The ERH-300-PRB’s roller bed tooling lets operators easily transfer products to and from the machine. Its intergrated locking system ensures the load is secure. Optional limit sensors for repeatable vertical stop positions are also available.

Acrylic adhesive

Permanent, pressure-sensitive

Meant to fill the gap between regular solvent-acrylic adhesives and silicone adhesives, V-483 permanent, pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive produces a high-performance bond in high temperatures just below the level where silicone adhesive is essential. This adhesive bonds well to metals, as well as low- and high-surface energy plastics, says co.

UV topcoat

High-gloss or matte finish

Craigcoat 1071S is a UV topcoat that can withstand up to 500 deg F to prevent bar codes from scuffing. It also protects substrates during wave soldering on PC boards or during personalization of business forms using hot lasers. Available in high-gloss or matte finishes, it can be applied by a variety of printing methods and used in other applications requiring temperature resistance.

Blister films

Software for pack design

Co.’s newest blister-film products include Pentapharm® alfoil® E S03 polymer films; Pentamed® ACLAR® films; Pentapharm® alfoil® SG polymer films; and the Pentapharm BlisterPro™ software design program. The two types of Pentapharm alfoil films are well suited for applications requiring moisture and oxygen barrier properties. The Pentamed ACLAR films are reportedly ideal for a wide range of medical-device applications, and the BlisterPro software can help package designers and converters easily determine the best film for a specific end-use application.

Glue valves

For short glue patterns at high speed

The 500 series glue valves feature advanced solenoid technology for short glue patterns at high speeds. They feature an adjustable flow rate for precise glue-volume control and the ability to convert between contact and non-contact glue patterns. The valves have a purge/test switch and a carbide-tipped plunger assembly for long service life, co. says. They are said to fit well for folding carton, envelope and other high-speed, print finishing and paper converting applications.
