Atlanta-based Atlantis Plastics says it will evaluate strategic alternatives, including a possible sale of the company. Atlantis Plastics is a maker of polyethylene stretch and custom films and molded plastic products. It installed a 7-layer VAREX® blown-film extrusion line from Windmoeller & Hoelsher Corp. in 2006.
The shareholders of paperboard converter Graphic Packaging Corp. (Marietta, GA) approve the proposed merger with Altivity Packaging of Elk Grove Village, IL. More than 88% of outstanding shares were cast in favor of the transaction.
Irish packaging converter Clondalkin Group will acquire Accutech Films, Inc., a producer of custom films for industrial, agricultural, food and beverage applications. With its state-of-the-art research and development, product engineering capabilities and extensive mono, coextrusion and printing facilities, Coldwater, OH-based Accutech has developed its product range over the past 10 years.
Rock-Tenn Co. (Norcross, GA) says it will acquire the stock of Southern Container Corp., a privately-held containerboard manufacturing and corrugated packaging business, for $851 million in cash. Southern Container operates the 720,000-tons/yr Solvay mill, near Syracuse, NY, one of the lowest-cost recycled containerboard mills in North America, as well as eight integrated corrugated box plants, two sheet plants and four high-impact graphics facilities.
Canada's Alcoa will sell its packaging and consumer businesses to New Zealand's Rank Group Ltd. for $2.7 billion in cash. The deal is expected to close by the end of the first quarter 2008. Alcoa's packaging and consumer businesses generated approximately $3.2 billion in revenues in 2006, representing 10 percent of Alcoa 2006 sales.
