-- Converting Magazine, 1/1/2008

Auto knife-positioning system

Co.'s automatic knife-positioning systems are available in score, shear and razor slitting. The shear unit is capable of a minimum 0.50-in. slit width and web-through design is offered. The male and females are set simultaneously to reduce setup time, and optimization programs are available to reduce scrap and trim.

Two-drum surface winder

The new Model 210 drum surface winder minimizes downtime with its flexibility, roll quality control and fast changeovers via an auto slit-positioning feature. It slits materials from newsprint to paperboard to nonwovens. Slit separation is achieved with a single or dual bowed roll. Auto-eject and lowering table provides rapid removal of finished rolls.

Duplex-cantilever slitter

The C610B versatile duplex-cantilevered slitter's innovative rewind technology uses roll-lock differential air shafts and servo-actuated lay-on rollers to deliver the ability to rewind even the most difficult light-gauge films and complex laminates. It can be operated in a “minimum gap mode” for adhesives or cold seals, and there is a dedicated narrow-width option for narrow-web rewind applications.

Knifeholder

The Gold Series knifeholder can make slits as small as 2 in. into weights up to 800 gsm at speeds up to 5,000 fpm. It features a calibrated depth knob for precise blade-anvil overlap and tool-free cant angle adjustment. These characteristics reduce dust, increase blade life, ensure maximum spatial nip-point stability and increase the quality of the cut.

Lathe slitter

The E320 NM5 lathe slitter from co. has a 65-in. working width and handles parent rolls up to 12.5 in. in diameter on a 3-in. mandrel. Its cutting system of a single, rotating blade is PLC-controlled and interfaces with operators via a touch screen. Options include automatic blade-pivot angle, multiple-width cutting pre-selection on the same log, and a modem link to CMC for online software updates and troubleshooting.

Duplex slitter/rewinder

The CW800 duplex center-surface slitter/rewinder features differential winding capabilities to handle an unwind weight of 4,000 lbs and a rewind weight of 1,000-lb full-weight differential. The CW800 comes with an automatic knife-setting system that allows the operator to program the slit sizes or recall settings from the storage recipe to any slit pattern down to 1-in. cuts.

Inspection rewinder

The VSR inspection rewinder features a wide-open concept to easily see the unwind and rewind rolls while inspecting. The proximity of the slitter cartridge to the rewind and the use of separator rings ensure effective winding of narrow slit webs, co. says. The addition of capacitive sensors and a razor slitter make the machine ideal for inspecting clear-on-clear labels.
