Metallized barrier films can replace foil

Developed using a proprietary metallizing process, new ULTRA BARRIER-MET® polyester films are said to have superior barrier properties at costs similar to standard-grade metallized PET. Intended for high-barrier and foil-replacement applications, the films provide converters with lower manufacturing costs with ultimately sustainable, functional barrier properties, says co.

Biaxially-oriented nylon has transparency, gloss

As a mid-level oxygen-barrier Nylon/EVOH/Nylon biaxially-oriented film, new OxyShield® Plus has outstanding resistance to solvents, oils and greases, says co. The product also offers superior mechanical properties, good transparency and gloss, easy printing and lamination, and resistance to flex cracking. Additionally, OxyShield inline PVdC-coated BOPA film provides enhanced oxygen and moisture barrier via this specific coating.

High gauge-control sealant films fit sustainability goals

Co. offers converters, flexible-packaging and tag and labelmakers new high gauge-control films for source-reduction and sustainability applications via two new coextrusion, blown-film lines at its plant in Superior, WI. Real-time online gauge control provides tight specification tolerances for lighter weight sealant films in finished laminations. End-use applications include fresh produce, retort packaging, collation-shrink, peelable and surface-print films, among others.

Polypropylene films designed to withstand retort heat

Two new FDA-approved, cast-polypropylene sealant films for retort pouch and lidding applications include CPP ZK100 film for retort-pouch contructions. It offers exceptional clarity, low haze, non-whitening and stress-crack resistance. CPP CF9501 sealant film for retort lidding creates a secure, easy-to-peel lamination which can be used on PP containers, says co. Both new films reportedly withstand sterilization temperatures up to 135 deg. C.

Source-reduced films increase yield

The Empower™ film portfolio can help lower a package's environmental footprint as well as enhance marketing opportunities, protect a product's moisture properties and increase film yield. INsight™ sealant film lets converters print on the sealant layer while eliminating a lamination pass. Synergy™ is a hybrid film with stiffness and moisture-barrier properties in a source-reduced material. Endurance™, a thin-gauge sealant film, gives converters the ability to maximize yield while maintaining a high-quality final product.

Food-pack polypropylene resin doesn't turn yellow

Adstif HA740J resin can address the needs of multilayer, barrier food packaging. The nucleated, high-crystalline polypropylene (PP) has the potential for thermoformers to incorporate regrind into clear PP applications without compromising the finished package's transparency. Sheet containing ethylene vinyl alcohol and a tie layer exhibited no visible signs of degradation or yellowness, even after recycling numerous times, says co.
