Screen printing ink

Produces mirror effect

XYMARA™ Quicksilver SF-02 is a new, ready-to-use, flatbed screen-printing ink that offers a pinhole-free mirror effect. It provides an economical and productive printing alternative to foil blocking and film metallization, co. says. This ink can be used on a wide range of plastic substrates for POS displays and graphics for packaging and labels for goods such as perfumes, fashion wear and luxury beverages.

Dancer controller

Detects web breaks; repeatable control

Touted as co.'s most advance dancer controller, the D-3400 features range-expander capabilities, web-break detection, inertia compensation, transferable memory cards, RS-232 interface to computer and industrial standard-fieldbus connections. Developed to provide accurate, repeatable tension control for unwind applications, it can be used with equipment that employs dancer arm-control systems. The D-3400 controller can be mounted in co.'s System 3000 cabinet or in a circuit-board configuration.

Over-printing UV-flexo press

For short-run production

The EDM200 reportedly is the first semi-rotary, servo-driven UV-flexo press. Engineered for the short-run, fast-turnaround production of labels, tickets and tags, it is made to work mainly as an over-printing machine. With its insetting register-control system, it's reportedly possible to re-pass a pre-diecut and/or preprinted web in absolute register. The printing sleeve makes seamless or endless printing possible when the machine is in fully rotary mode, co. says.

Surface inspection lighting system

With fully-digital controls; handles webs to 8 ft wide

Displayed at Labelexpo Europe 2007, the Lith-O-Light series of strobe lights for inspection systems demonstrated its new LOL-5, Guardian and Style IV lights, as well as the battery-powered Tracker handheld light with a spot pattern. This series features fully-digital controls and has twice the power of older analog units. These lights can cover a full range of web widths from 2 in. to almost 8 ft wide. Co. also demonstrated its UV Illuminated Kit for the Lith-O-Light series that enables black-light inspection of clear and UV coatings for security and anti-counterfeiting print applications.

Regenerative thermal oxidizer

Thermal-efficiency rating of 97 percent

The ultra-high efficiency CLEANSWITCH® regenerative thermal oxidizer features a proprietary burner-management system and heat-transfer media that reportedly combine to reduce natural gas consumption by at least 40 percent. With a thermal-efficiency rating of 97 percent, it is available in sizes ranging from 20,000 to 60,000 scfm and removes almost up 100 percent of volatile organic compounds. With no additional fuel required to destroy VOCs, users can achieve clean air compliance with a smaller carbon footprint, co. says.

Conformable label films

For compound container curves

Co. expands its conformable films line with Fasson 3.0-mil MDO and Global Co-Ex™ films. Made for compound curves and full-squeeze applications, the MDO films provide a no-label-look for HDPE, LDPE and PP containers. They are available in white or matte clear and are designed for water- and UV-flexo, UV rotary screen and solvent-based print methods, hot-stamping and cold-foiling. Global Co-Ex films come in white or clear, with the top-coated version reportedly providing superior print surface and ink anchorage, while the non top-coated version offers excellent print performance when corona treated, co. says. Global Co-Ex films are suitable for most clear-on-clear, no-label-look applications when UV-gloss flood varnish is applied.

Label printers

No PC necessary

Co.'s new H-400/H-600 Series thermal-transfer product identification and barcode label printers, in 203 or 300 dpi, feature a durable all metal construction with a cast aluminum center wall for extra strength. The large media window allows for easy viewing and monitoring of supplies. The printers feature a real-time clock for time and date stamping of labels and co.'s EASYLABEL® Start software for designing and printing labels. No PC is necessary—just download the label formats to the printer's flash memory and print from anywhere.

Peristaltic ink pumps

Change pump heads without tools

The “Quick Change” single and dual-head peristaltic ink pumps let operators change out pump heads and hose without tools. Both feature a lightweight splash-resistant design, variable speed and forward/reverse. The pump heads can be quickly rotated to accommodate individual press configurations. The dual-head style pumps two colors to two different decks, pump the same color to two decks, or pump ink up and pull back down from a single deck, resulting in better ink management with just one pump.

Laminating system

For narrow-web flexible packaging

Co. launches its newly developed Digilam 330 film-laminating system at Labelexpo Europe 2007. Capable of laminating on a wide range of narrow web, flexible packaging materials using aqueous adhesives, the Digilam 330 is an off-line system that can be used for digital and conventionally printed webs. A gravure printhead is used to achieve accurate adhesive coating weight, along with a four-stage hot-air dryer to achieve full cure. A heated roller laminates the second substrate to the master web by activating the adhesive prior to the rewind section.

Color proofing system

For HP DesignJet Z3100

The ColorProof driver for the HP DesignJet Z3100 printer allows converters to take advantage of all the benefits of an internal spectrophotometer, along with an expanded color gamut. The HP DesignJet Z3100 digital inkjet printer is designed to create proofs with 12 color units: light versions of CMYK, traditional MYK, RGB, a light black (grey) and a gloss enhancer. With these 12 units and the GMG ColorProof system, the user is able to reproduce spot color, Hexachrome® and Opaltone® color gamuts that are much truer. With the help of the internal spectrophotometer, every proof on the Z3100 can be automatically verified.

High-powered electrode

Increase line speeds by up to 20 percent

Rather than slowing down your line speed to get the proper dyne level, co. suggests installing the new DT+XL electrode. This high-powered electrode can reportedly increase line speeds up to 20 percent without changing power levels. The DT+XL electrode can be retrofit into existing corona-treating equipment, regardless of manufacturer.
