Coming back for more
Mike Taylor -- Converting Magazine, 9/1/2007
It seems like only a year or two ago, but actually it's nearly 20 years since we installed our first CMC Cevenini auto lathe slitter,” recalls David Ogles, managing director of Hadleigh Enterprises.
Based in Wickford, UK, family-run Hadleigh has been a contract converter and distributor of adhesive tapes since 1971. The ISO-9000-certified company prides itself on offering precise slitting tolerances of ±0.20 mm for the aerospace, telecommunications, electronics and construction industries, among others.
Hadleigh processes pressure-sensitive materials from a range of world-class suppliers such as 3M Co., Scapa Tapes and Tesa Tape. It also provides diecutting services for p-s shapes based on customer drawings or exact specifications.
Flexibility fits“So when it was time to invest in lathe slitter number five, having recently seen the latest developments at the ICE exhibition, we decided to order the new Cevenini Model E320 NM5,” Ogles says. “This machine really has proven to be a very useful and flexible piece for our converting needs.”
The E320 NM 5 (www.cmccevenini.com) has a 65-in. working width and handles parent rolls up to 12.5 in. in diameter on a 3-in. mandrel. Its cutting system of a single, rotating blade is PLC-controlled and interfaces with operators via a touchscreen. Options include automatic blade-pivot angle, multiple-width cutting pre-selection on the same log, and a modem link to CMC for online software updates and troubleshooting.
