C-P Flexible Packaging to add second W&H Primaflex® press

Converter C-P Flexible Packaging (www.cpconverters.com) of York, PA, installs a 10-color Primaflex® CM press from Windmoeller & Hoelscher Corp. (www.whcorp.com). The 52-in., CI-flexo system joins a 41-in., 8+2-color Primaflex CM purchased last year. The new unit is expected to be operational this month, C-P reports.
Due to significant growth in the past few years and more expected going forward, C-P vice president of manufacturing Greg Collins justifies the additional purchase. “We needed to plan ahead for that growth and ensure we'd have the capacity and technology to grow as our customer base grows.
“When we first set out to purchase a new flexographic press in the fall of 2005, we did a thorough review of press manufacturers, looking at their designs, service organization, existing installations and price,” Collins continues. “We felt W&H best met our objectives for quality of construction, well planned engineering, ease of operator use and overall project cost.”
Collins further explains that in acquiring a second W&H press, workforce flexibility and uniformity in maintenance and spare parts is realized. Due to a similarity in controls and operation of the two presses, C-P can readily move personnel between the two Primaflex machines as demand warrants, while simultaneously minimize its parts inventory costs. The decision to invest in a 10-color press this time around came out of a need to add graphics capability for the ever-increasing complexity of new packaging designs.
C-P Flexible Packaging opened its doors in 1959 and today supplies flexible packaging, shrink-sleeve and roll-fed labels to numerous markets including snacks, bakery, candy, pasta, nuts, coffee, lawn and garden, trading cards, health care and fragrance packaging.
