Amgraph Packaging purchases a Bobst Rotomec (www.bobstgroup.com) MW80 nine-station gravure press from the supplier during the recent CMM Intl. 2007. The eight-color plus lacquer system prints 33.5-in. wide and is being added to boost the capacity and capabilities of the Amgraph 80,000-sq-ft plant in Versailles, CT, says Michael Higgins, director of operations. The press will be outfitted with an electron-beam curing unit and was chosen for its short-run, short-web path, rapid-changeover traits, he adds.

Flex-pack converting giant Bemis Corp. will invest more than $21 million to upgrade its Terre Haute, IN, facility, in a move that will create 29 new jobs. The company will hire press operators and assistant press operators following the installation of two 10-color presses and three extrusion lines later this year. Bemis' Terre Haute facility is the headquarters for its Polyethylene Packaging Div.

Helsinki, Finland-based substrate provider UPM Raflatac (www.upmraflatac.com) breaks ground on its new pressure-sensitive labelstock plant in Kobierzyce, Poland. The $120-million facility is scheduled for startup late next year. It will serve the growing Eastern European market and meet increasing demand for film-label materials and products with hot-melt adhesives Europewide.
