Rolls & Rollers

Associate Editor: Jorina Fontelera -- Converting Magazine, 7/1/2007

Surface rollers

To facilitate moving rolls on and off the air-shaft body per OSHA-recommended upper limit of forces for horizontal pushing and pulling, co. has designed ergonomic surface rollers. The surface rollers are a fixed-height assembly of low-friction wheels that minimize the initial force and sustained force when moving a roll onto a cantilevered air shaft. They are designed to slide into one or more of the existing slots in co.'s external bladder models.

Idler roll

New WINertia™ AV rollers can handle running on encoders, rewinders, high-speed presses and other converting equipment at speeds from 500 to 3,400 fpm. Compared to spiral-grooved rolls, the WINertia™ AV reportedly gets the air out 7.5 times faster and has 15 times the air-parking capacity.

The roll shells include a tungsten carbide plasma release coating and optional coverings such as polymer compounds, stainless-steel mesh screen, felt and gravure seamless screen. Rolls come in diameters up to 160 in., with web wrap angles from 30 to 180 deg.
