Mid-web coater/laminator

Teams with 8-color CI-flexo press

The 33.5-in.-wide Lamiflex S coater/laminator includes corona treatment before and after the laminating station, both directed from the main control panel, and features fast changeover via sleeve technology and AC-servo drives. A short web path between adhesive application and laminating means increased resistance to contamination from dust and pollutants. The system teams well with co.’s 8-color, 31.5-in.-wide Flex Midi CI-flexo press which is engineered for use with water-based inks.

High-speed surface unwind

Handles parent rolls to 60-in. diameter

Suited for high-speed polybag and draw-tape bagmaking, the new Model 2352 surface-driven unwind is said to increase output and reduce roll changeover by delivering film with precisely controlled tension and edge guiding. Film rolls are supported by a center shaft and driven via a cantilevered, split-roll surface drive capable of following irregular surfaced rolls. Roll widths from 12-52 in. can be run at speeds of up to 700 fpm. Both CE-compliance and advanced PLC control offer safety and ease of operation.

Closed-loop spectrodensitometer

Dynamic control cuts waste, speeds turnaround

A new feature on co.’s closed-loop Densitronic S scanning spectrodensitometer for sheetfed-offset printing presses—Dynamic Control—calculates ink surges based on a reference sheet and opens the ink keys to a specific target according to what is needed to achieve the reference densities. This significantly reduces spoilage and waste while streamlining jobs, says co. The optional software feature is available immediately to printers using presses with Densitronic S as well as being possible for retrofits.

Ultrasonic sensor

Intrinsically safe; long sensing range

UL-listed for use in hazardous-classified locations, the new RPS-409A-IS’ intrinsically safe ultrasonic sensor detects presence, proximity, level control, volume, and distance measuring. It can cover ranges from 4 in. to 18 ft. and needs no setup adjustments or calibration. An LED indicator is provided which reads green when not detecting and changes to red when a target moves into place. Designed to take advantage of today’s PLC and computer analog-input cards, the ultrasonic sensor has a 0 – 10V linear analog output and withstands -40 to 140 deg F.

Portable corona treater

Runs both sheets and webs

Designed to process a wide variety of materials in either sheetfed or roll-to-roll format, co.’s new corona-treating system has an integral HFT-Series power supply, power-density control, and adjustable speed control—all pre-wired and mounted to a portable frame. It’s engineered for use in test laboratories for evaluating the effectiveness of corona-discharge surface treatment on customer materials. The sheet feed and roll drive are both variable-speed and include a stepless control system and web tension control. Converters need only add incoming power and provide ozone exhaust.

Differential shafts

On exhibit at CMM Intl. 2007

A complete line of Equalizer differential shafts now include a core-lock style shaft to suit 6-in. ID cores. This new product is said to increase profitability when rewinding multiple rolls of material that may be subject to caliper variation. The Model D4 differential shaft for converting dust-free rolls provides precise tension control, allowing converters to run ultra-thin films common in today’s production environment. An unusual two-row, 12-ball, torque-activated, core-lock design insures equalized tension across any combination of roll widths.

Vacuum-duty slim load cell

Has 40:1 tension range

With its low-profile design, co.’s new Ultra Line Vacuum-Duty Slim Cell is engineered for use in vacuum environments such as in the production of metallized films and vacuum deposition of thin films or coatings on various substrates. It features a 40:1 tension range and noise immunity for precise tension measurement on web processes. Applicable with either dead or rotating shafts, the Slim cell is said to be ideal for either retrofit or new machinery because it is only 1-in. wide and is both corrosive- and chemical-resistant.

Coated label overlaminate

“Wipes out” graffiti without cleaners

Graffiti-resistant overlaminate material 7248 protects end-users’ labels and graphics from various forms of intentional defacement. A proprietary coating reportedly provides excellent resistance to permanent marker, crayon, spray paint, and ballpoint pen. The tough, anti-glare finish offers solvent- and abrasion-resistance along with a high level of humidity and UV durability.

Modular belting

Smoothes stack conveying

M2470 flat-top, 1-in. Modular Belting features the lowest possible vertical displacement and thus ensures even smoother conveying for stacked product. Compared to other 1-in. modular belts, it is said to show less vibration and more stable stack conveyance, guaranteeing efficient handling of narrow stacks of paperboard and label stocks. Corrugated stacks reportedly run so evenly that even the highest stacks remain stable. The closed belt edges make the modules abrasion-resistant and ensure a long service life.
