Narrow-web flexo press

Newly re-engineered, multiple configurations

Available in three option classes, the 2200 narrow-web flexographic printing press has been completely renovated with multiple configurations to meet a variety of specific user needs. Models include the economical “L” class, an upgraded high-speed “XL” class, and the servo-driven “XLS.” Among the presses' features are “QC” Quick Change Cassettes and “QC” Quick Change Drawers, re-engineered registration, and new drying and servo technology.

Safe sleeve-change system

For gearless CI-flexo press

A new development for the Flexotecnica NG8 gearless CI-flexo press, the SSC Safe Sleeve Change® system, allows the safe replacement of one or more sleeves while the press is printing. To ensure the operator's total safety while performing this operation, the press has interlocked deck windows, a special aluminum shutter and an integrated safety circuit. A special aluminum shutter slides down between the drum and the plate mandrel to isolate the CI drum, preventing any contact while it is running.

Turn bays

Flip or alter web direction by 90 degs

Co.'s new Turn Bays, designed to flip webs over or to change a web's path by 90 degs, are offered in multiple styles and configurations with rugged construction. Said to be ideal for quality performance with most web materials and at any speed range, the turn bay's components are sized to meet application needs along with custom drilled and grooved surfaces. In both horizontal and vertical setups, the bay bars fit above or below other machinery and are easy to install.

Lightweight leaf shaft

Ergonomic design, multiple bladder

Reportedly the lightest 3-in. shaft on the market at less than .24 lbs/in. of assembled body, the new 1260-LF Ultralight leaf shaft was developed under critical ergonomic guidelines. The aluminum shaft's multiple-bladder design is easily accessible and can be replaced in 10-15 mins. Intended for light-duty single or multiple-roll applications, the 1260-LF is said to be an excellent choice for drum-ported systems.

Micro-perforation unit

Interchangeable pin sleeves

Co.'s new micro-perforation machine offers two advantages over previous generation systems. It can start and stop perforation at specified points on a package, and it matches rotation of the pinned roll to web speed which eliminates inertia-caused “bad” holes. Changeovers and repairs are said to be fast, easy and economical with interchangeable pin sleeves with removable pins. Units include auto-safety shielding for operator protection, and the standard configuration has a castored frame for portability and idler rolls for web-path control.

Quality dyne pens

For surface-tension testing

Dyne-test ink indicates that a plastic substrate has sufficient surface tension for printing, coating and laminating. To avoid scrapping large quantities of substrate with poor print due to insufficient bonding, it is always advisable to check corona-treated material before printing. Pens are supplied in dyne-values from 32-56 dyne/cm. Red-dyne pens can be used to draw a line on the material to indicate if the dyne level is more or less than 38 dyne.

Wide-format digital press

Prints paperboard up to 80 in. wide

The patented Rhopac flatbed system features the Quadro® array technology for 400- or 600-dpi digital printing resolution on paperboard or corrugated substrates. Standard CMYK along with optional white, clear varnish and special spot colors is offered. Sheets from 12 x 17 in. and up to 80 in. wide can be handled. UV-resistant inkjet inks print text down to 4-pt type, reversed text down to 6 pt, and A-rated bar codes as well. A new sheet-handling system speeds input of raw substrate.

Compact sensor

Ultrasonic, narrow-sensing beam

Co.'s RPS-40-5 compact, high-frequency, ultrasonic sensor detects translucent or opaque materials, runs on 12-24 VDC power and features a fixed sensing range of 0.50-5.0 in. With a wide array of application solutions not found in other proximity sensor technologies, the RPS-40-5 finds objects in its given range, while objects out of range are ignored (background suppression). It cannot be affected by changes in target color or material.

Vacuum metallizer

At ICE 2007 in Munich

The TOPMET™ 4450 system, reportedly the world's largest vacuum metallizer for packaging applications, employs a newly designed high-rate evaporator that enables up to 20 percent higher line speed than previous machines. It can process OPP films from 15-20 µm in thickness to a maximum coating width of 4.45 meters and a roll diameter of more than 1.2 meters. This high-productivity system coats 5.5 tons of OPP film at a speed of up to 3,400 fpm.

Photoelectric sensor

Tamper-proof construction

Co.'s ML8 Series miniature photoelectric sensors (31mm x 11mm x 23mm) feature tamper-proof construction to eliminate setting adjustments by unauthorized users. They have high ambient-light immunity (40 klux) and provide a sensing range up to 2.5 meters. High-intensity LEDs provide sensor output status and are visible from the front and rear of the sensor, which is available in sensing modes of diffused and polarized retro-reflective. Slotted mounting holes enable mounting versatility and a visible-red LED transmitter facilitates ease of alignment.
