Laser marking technology

CodeStream is an invisible coating that can be placed anywhere on a label or package via flexo, offset or gravure. Imaged by a low-power, high-speed laser, an unalterable tamper-resistant mark is left on the substrate. CodeStream does not release solvents, airborne particulates or consumable waste. It is compatible with most laser writing equipment.

Security paper

HoloSECURE security paper uses holographic technology to provide an increased level of authentication and shelf appeal. Custom holographic images can be created to suit customers' needs. Optional covert imagery that can only be seen when illuminated by laser light is also available. The paper can be slit, sheet cut, embossed, laminated or backed with adhesive.

End-of-line packaging customization

The DataLase® process allows the printing of variable information on labels or packaging at the end of the production line using a low-power carbon dioxide laser. The area to be marked is coated with DataLase® and left blank until the end of the line in case there are changes or new details to be added. Any changes can be programmed into the system without needing to stop the production process.

Security facestock

Co.'s security facestock incorporates embedded security fibers for authenticity verification and offers customizable security features such as water marks, ink reactivity and environmental reactive fibers. The facestock has high opacity and excellent ink adherence as well.

Recycling facility

Co. is installing equipment to recover materials from all types of RFID scrap including labels and ID cards. It will be the first dedicated recycler for RFID and embedded chips in North America. Co. will purchase and process RFID substrates, antennas, chips, finished labels, ink scrap and other production waste. It also plans to recoup metals and plastics from ID badges, smart cards and magnetic strip cards.

Aluminum HF inlays

A provider of copper inlays for the RFID market for over 20 years, co. now introduces the V730S-D13-PO1 aluminum-based inlay. This credit card-sized inlay is compliant with the ISO15693 HF standard for 13.56 MHz frequency. It has comparable performance with the copper version of the same inlay, co. says.

Curing system

Co.'s Photonic Curing System is capable of rapidly curing conductive patterns on low-temperature substrates, including RFID tags, without the use of heat. It can cure or sinter metal nanoparticle-based films by exposing them to a brief, intense pulse of light from a xenon flash lamp. This system can cure conductive fine lines of almost any metal, silver and copper included, on polyester, various types of paper, polyethylene and polystyrene, among others. While printing at high speeds, it can fuse copper particles without the need for inert atmosphere to attain cure, co. says.

Tag-embedding system

The Infinity V1 RFID Tag and Inlay embedding system can insert the tag or inlay in paper or film labels of varying sizes. Its bad-tag detection and removal system ensures the readability of the labels. The Infinity can be retrofitted with current converting lines or used as a stand-alone module. A touch pad lets the operator key in the parameters needed for accurate insertion.

RFID label security

RFID labels are not physically secure, co. says, which is why it launched Smart&Secure, a tamper-evident technology that detects if a label has been tampered or moved. It disables the RFID tag if it detects tampering to prevent the use of the tags on counterfeit or substitute products.

Adaptive antenna

The Package-Is-The-Tag™ features the world's first adaptive EPC Gen 2 family of tags. It incorporates a universal UHF AK tag module and an adaptive antenna, which is customized and printed within the package of the item to be RFID-enabled. The AK Tag can be used with secondary conductive ink, aluminum or copper antennas printed on the package, which it can work with in close proximity. There is no need for a mechanical connection or strap to activate the tag. It is fully adaptable to various packaging shapes, materials and sizes, and also the nature of the goods in the packaging.

Transponder validation system

Co. launches the Pressiza® TVS-2500R transponder validation system, which features a high output, pick-and-replace mechanism for failed tags. This stand-alone tester/encoder is equipped with a PLC and Flexolution® RFID TVS software for accurate reads with repeats as small as an inch. The pick-and-place feature removes and replaces failed tags with pre-verified tags with an accuracy of 1/32 of an inch.

Inspection system

The SPI single pass inspection system for the automated high-speed verification and certification of labels for security-sensitive industries, inspects, repairs, re-inspects, slits and rewinds all in one pass. When a fault is detected, a signal is generated for the machine to stop with controlled deceleration. The web reverses and the fault is placed on the editing table. All the while, the slitting/rewinding section is frozen to ensure the integrity of the slitting and the quality of the finished roll is uncompromised.
