FDA-compliant EB-curable adhesive

Co. announces its new line of electron beam-curable laminating adhesives which are FDA-compliant for food packaging applications. Along with providing good bonding to PET, BOPP, LDPE, metallized films, aluminum foil and paper, the adhesives' full-bond strength is achieved immediately upon curing, which allows inline processing of downstream finishing, such as slitting and rewinding.

High-temperature adhesives

Said to perform reliably at temperatures from 450 to 540 deg. F, co.'s Series 100 pressure-sensitive adhesives attach immediately and invisibly without the work and appearance of mechanical fasteners or the dripping and drying of liquid adhesives. The materials are reportedly ideal for high-temperature labels for appliances and under the hood in vehicles, PCB tracking labels and battery-pack labels.

Freezer-grade adhesive

Frostbite™, a freezer-grade hot-melt adhesive, features excellent initial tack and ultimate adhesion to flexible packaging and varnished paperboard packaging when applied at freezing conditions. It is especially effective when applied at room temperature and then subjected to –40 deg. F. Although testing is recommended, co. claims it will also adhere to a variety of surfaces despite the amount of frost or moisture.

Water-based laminating adhesives

Robond™ L, a water-based, dry-bond laminating adhesive, developed specifically to meet general and medium performance applications, features greater bond strength, chemical resistance to filled products and excellent laminating performance on crystal-polypropylene films and laminate constructions with aluminum foil. Beta testers of the product found that lower coat weight or high running speeds did not cause foaming or anilox roller clogging, co. says. It can also be run on solvent-based coating equipment.

Gear pumps

Available for 120 or 240 VAC operation, the D4-E hot-melt pump features a positive displacement, motor-driven gear pump that offers a continuous pulse-free output and can be used with spray, ribbon coating, direct contact and high-speed jetting adhesive-dispensing guns. The unit has programmable sequential zone start-up, automatic temperature setback, high/low temperature protection and high-pressure protection.

Pressure-sensitive adhesives

Co.'s AROSET® pressure-sensitive adhesive line was introduced in December 2006 at China Adhesives 2006. AROSET® 1588 has good solvent and high-temperature resistance, and adheres well to low surface-energy products. It is said to be ideal for labels used on household durable goods such as lawn mowers. AROSET® 1551 has improved room-temperature shear.
