Color-control system

Digital touchscreen for offset printing presses

The new KeyColor S ink-control system for small-format, sheetfed-offset presses is designed to help converters produce high-quality color work and save time and money by speeding makeready and reducing waste. Intended for both new presses and retrofits, it employs a user-friendly, digital touchscreen to control the fountain ink keys. When combined with Keycolor AutoSet presetting software, the system converts digital data from an imagesetter or CTP system to ink-zone coverage and presets all ink keys. Simplified controls assure ease of operation and reliability of service, co. says.

Compact video web inspection

New features enhance the operator's proficiency

Co.'s InPrint video web-inspection system now offers an increased field of view, reduced glare when inspecting reflective materials, and additional software to help operators quickly identify and respond to printing defects. Operators can now see more of the web at one time via an updated camera lens, providing for greater detection on wider webs. New strobe technology with diffuser is said to eliminate glare when working with foil, metallic inks and other reflective materials. The latest InPrint user-friendly software makes it easier to identify differences in color to detect variances in saturation and tone.

Flexo plate processor

Runs batch mode and incrementally inline

The new Concept 505 XP flexographic-printing plate processor is reportedly the world's first to handle plates in batch mode (individually) and inline (incrementally). The patent-pending solution lets converters choose the mode best suited to their production requirements at any particular time. Once processing is complete, the machine's brushes are automatically washed with fresh solvent to eliminate all trace of polymer.

Nanotext security device

Foil, labels for boosting brand protection

TRUSTSEAL® optical security device works to provide brand protection via image flip (sharp transition from one design to another when the image is tilted), full-color effects, matte structures, partial demetallization and transparent diffraction effects. It can be supplied as hot-stamping foil, laminating foil and p-s labels. By integrating features such as serial numbering, first-use indicator, tamper evidence and nanotext, among others, the level of protection can be adjusted to the brand owner's requirements. Applications include labels, pharmaceuticals, videos, CDs, DVDs, software, tickets, vouchers and more.

Web-sensing roll

Strain gauge and lightweight tube united

With a Montalvo-designed, sensitive strain-gauge system and a high-performance lightweight, low-inertia aluminum tube manufactured by Componex™, the new TNT-Series web-tension sensing roll is said to fit virtually any application. The strain gauges of the TNT-Series load cell form a full-bridge configuration. The force from the web tension bends the sensing beams (mounted internally on each end of the roll) and, as a result, the resistance of each strain gauge changes to produce an output signal proportional to the web's tension. A wide variety of sizes (from 80-mm dia.), lengths, and load ranges (from 125N) are available.

Real-time data collection

For adhesive, coating control

The new ClearView© production information system provides real-time data collection and analysis to improve overall adhesive-application and coating-system effectiveness (OEE) and increase profitability. Using electronic alerts along with Web-based access and streaming display boards, the unit delivers to the operator immediate production information visibility to identify and correct production problems and bottlenecks, reducing scrap and/or rework. The ClearView system's data collection allows comparisons across jobs, shifts or other defined durations and includes analysis of setup times, run speeds and downtime among numerous other parameters.

Heavy-roll material handling

Tether-free operation boosts worker safety

The new Roll Mover™ lightweight, rechargeable, battery-powered material mover is reportedly capable of pushing or pulling (depending on model) rolls weighing up to 40,000 lbs. safely. The Roll Mover eliminates the pneumatic air-hose tethers that limit both the use and range of existing movers. It also features a variety of lockout options for situations that require optimum safety to immobilize a heavy, dangerous load.

Light-roll lifter

Easily moves rolls up to 340 lbs

Engineered to handle light rolls of paper and other substrates up to 340 lbs, the new Model LD1-3 Tip Lift uses ergonomically designed handles and controls that feature interlocking safety switches. Intended for moving small rolls in production and printing areas with low headroom, the Tip Lift accommodates rolls from 4- to 24-in. diameter using a short probe and manual tooth release.

Label vision inspection

New software capabilities

Co. introduces the latest version of its PrintVision Helios automatic 100% inspection system for label printing. The equipment detects missing labels, color deviations, misprints, spots, streaks, character flaws, die-cut misregistration and imperfect matrix removal, among other traits. New PrintFlow Manager and WorkFlow Link software programs add a quality information layer to label production. WorkFlow Link transfers data from the press directly to the rewinder for more efficient removal of defective materials.

Anti-fogging agent

Clears BOPP and CPP food films

Hydroclear 2 anti-fogging masterbatch is said to control the formation of water droplets in packaging using films made of oriented polypropylene and cast polypropylene. Cold fog testing on a 30-micron multilayer, extruded film containing 5 percent Hydroclear 2 reportedly found that the anti-fog agent prevents droplet formation within 15 min after a package is placed in a refrigerator at 4 deg C.
