To keep up with continuing increases in private-label sales, pressure-sensitive label and unsupported tag manufacturer Labelco, Inc. (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada), purchased another 10-in., 10-color Mark Andy press (www.markandy.com). That purchase, in turn, required the company to look for a complementary slitter/rewinder to handle the higher production. Labelco president Gord Joyce didn't have to look far to find the perfect slitter/rewinder to accompany the existing presses.

“We've had great success with our Mark Andy press acquisitions and considered the VSR100 a natural fit for our latest purchase,” Joyce says. “VSR's longer web path and larger inspection table has made the removal of offending product and replacing of missing labels easier.”

The VSR100 is an extension of Mark Andy's line of VSR machines. This inspection rewinder for finishing p-s rolls allows the operator to see the unwind and rewind rolls while inspecting. The proximity of the slitter cartridge to the rewind and the use of separator rings ensure effective winding of narrow webs, Mark Andy says.

Currently, Labelco has Mark Andy presses ranging from a 7-in., three-color system to 10-in., eight- and 10-color units. Along with running the standard film stocks (polypropylene, polyethylene and vinyl), Labelco also prints a complete line of products on p-s papers with paper and poly release liners. Its other services include relaminating/delaminating, adhesive deadening and printing with constant-tension laminating with three die stations per press.

“The VSR complements our existing print production,” Joyce says. “It's allowed us to keep pace with a demanding shipping schedule.”
