In a major renovation of its production facility, Sandy Hook, CT-based cartonmaker Curtis Packaging adds several new finishing systems and a quality lab to its lineup of technology and services. Advanced finishing systems for folding-carton converting now include a high-speed SBL-1300SEF foil stamper (above left) supplied by CG Machinery (www.cgmachinery.com), two new Omega folder/gluers (above right) and a Kohmann 950 windowing machine (www.window-patcher.com).
“Finishing is where the printed sheet becomes a package,” says John Giusto, vice president of manufacturing at Curtis. “It's also where you can add extra shelf appeal to the project with techniques like foiling and windowing.”
Curtis also joins the growing list of businesses running solely on “windpower.” It signed an agreement Aug. 16 with Community Energy, Inc. (www.communityenergy.biz), to purchase pollution-free, renewable energy equal to 100 percent of its electrical usage. Curtis will buy a portion of its clean energy commitment through the CT Clean Energy Options Program with the majority of the renewable energy being sourced from windpower.
“We're proud to be a leader in our industry and to continue to do our part to protect the environment,” says Don Droppo Jr., vice president of sales and marketing for Curtis Packaging. “Our customers and the community value the commitment we've made to a safe and secure energy future. We are confident that we're doing the right thing by reducing the impact on the environment.”
