RTO provides 97% thermal efficiency

Co.'s regenerative thermal oxidizer destroys up to 99.9 percent of VOCs present in process air streams and provides up to 97 percent thermal efficiency. It uses ceramic media packed into vertical canisters as a high-efficiency heat exchanger. THE CMM GROUP, 920/336-9800, fax: 920/336-9797, www.thecmmgroup.com

Regenerative thermal oxidizer

The CLEANSWITCH® regenerative thermal oxidizer unit guarantees 99 percent standard VOC destruction efficiency, co. says. Its patented switch valve keeps treated air separate from dirty process air, which improves efficiency. For many applications, it runs in self-sustaining mode, meaning no additional fuel is needed to destroy VOCs and achieve clean air compliance. New on the Converting Floor: Flexo printer strays from “buy used” formula

Vince Kuber, president and chief executive officer of Prestige-Pak, Inc., a Fond du Lac, WI-based flexo printer, knew he needed to expand the business in order to keep serving his customers.

“In the printing industry, you get to a point where expansion is necessary to keep good customers whose needs have grown beyond your capabilities,” Kuber says.

He purchased a used, 8-color PCMC press (www.pcmc.com), which enabled Prestige-Pak to satisfy its customers' needs. However, it also presented a problem Kuber hadn't anticipated. The three presses the company had been using allowed it to operate without any air pollution equipment. The additional press put it over the EPA's limit of 100 tons/year of VOCs at a single facility.

Normally Kuber would have bought used equipment, but calculations showed that a new regenerative thermal oxidizer from Anguil Environmental Systems, Inc. (www.anguil.com) would save them enough operating costs to offset the increased capital costs over a used catalytic oxidizer. The 15,000SCFM, dual chamber RTO can handle emissions from the four presses, with the capacity for two more 8- to 10-color machines. Not only was the RTO destroying 99.3 percent of all VOCs, it was operating without any natural gas as long as the plant was running one press or more. Wastewater treatment equipment

The Flex-O-Star system is an automatic, self-cleaning wastewater treatment system for a variety of water-based effluents. It does not need a dedicated operator and is designed to require minimal supervision. It filters down to a half micron and offers a wide range of chemical treatment options. Repelletizer

Co.'s line of plastic repelletizers has 21 different models that can accommodate PE, PP, PS, ABS, metallocenes and coextrusion blends. They capture the edge trim, roll scrap and other film waste, convert it to pellets and reintroduce them into the extrusion process in a closed reclamation loop that safeguards the purity of the material. Heat recovery technology

Co.'s multi-layer media blocks for heat recovery are now available with taller block sizes and smaller wall thicknesses. The new sizes, 6 x 6 x 6 in. and 6 x 6 x 12 in., improve regenerative thermal oxidizer performance and add more flexibility to RTO bed designs, co. says. Advantages include increased resistance to plugging and fouling, and the ability to reduce canister size without sacrificing fuel economy. Thermal oxidizer

The Quadrant SR-Silicone Series thermal oxidizer has a round, modular design. It has a floating tube heat exchanger without any expansion joints for fast startups, frequent cycling and ultra-high thermal efficiencies. Other features include silicone transitions that force SiO2 for drop-out and to aid in fast cleanouts. The system also tracks the thermal efficiency of the system and sends out a warning when it should be cleaned. CATALYTIC PRODUCTS INTL., 847/438-0334, fax: 847/438-0944, www.cpilink.com

PLC provides even internal temperature distribution

The RETOX® Dual Chamber regenerative thermal oxidizer consists of a reinforced, internally insulated chamber filled with low-pressure-drop ceramic heat exchanger media. The VOC-laden gas flow is automatically controlled by a zero-leakage poppet valve mechanism, which changes the direction of the gas flow at regular intervals. An internal PLC provides an even internal temperature distribution throughout the RTO combustion chamber for high VOC destruction. Slitter dust capture system

Co.'s slitter dust capture system uses Source Capture Technology to reduce slitter dust at the souce. It captures dust where 80 percent of it is created—at the slitter knife. Less dust is introduced into machine parts and the surrounding area. Once in the system, the dust is conveyed by vacuum to portable or fixed vacuum units and the conveying air is filtered and returned to the atmosphere. The filtration system also meets OSHA standards for dust emission. DOYLE SYSTEMS, 800/445-3856, fax: 330/564-4005 www.doylesystems.com
