Two-color flexo press

Available in narrow- and wide-web configurations

Co.’s new line of flexographic-printing systems for the blown- and cast-film extruding markets is designed for one- or two-color printing applications. Configured for in-line printing in both narrow- and wide-web setups, the unit works with existing converting processes such as extrusion, bagmaking, laminating, coating and slitting/rewinding operations. Subsystems include an enclosed doctor-blade assembly, ceramic laser-engraved anilox rolls, 360-degree running registration control and a compact footprint to save valuable production florr space.

Anilox-roll engraving

Enhances ink transfer for higher print quality

Co. launches the HOW and HVP anilox-roll engraving processes. The HOW process optimizes ink transfer and is designed to provide screen-printing quality on high-opacity, UV-flexo whites, co. says. Benefits include improved opacity, ink evacuation and reduced pin-holing and ghosting. The HVP is said to be a specialized process that enhances the quality of solids, fine text and tints. Screen counts ranging from 400 to 1,000 lpi are available. The engraving reportedly provides a smoother solid while having the capability to produce intermediate process print.

Perforator/rewinder

For converting of nonwoven-wipes products

Featuring a touchscreen operator interface, the new ENR 1000 Series perforator/rewinder can unwind, perforate, slit and rewind a predetermined number of nonwoven-product sheets (such as wipes) per roll automatically. It produces six 7-in.-wide rolls per log, up to 15 logs/min., equaling 90 finished rolls/min. It can handle web widths ranging from 12 to 42 in., with a maximum rewind diameter of 10 in. Shear slitting comes standard on this machine. The precision rotary-shear perforator is also servo-controlled for infinite pitch-length adjustment from 6 to 24 in., and in-line folding is also offered.

Bagmaking machine

Job-storage system speeds changeovers

The Matador® NG flat and satchel bagmaking machine can convert a broad range of bag sizes from short bags for hamburgers to long ones for baguettes. Bag widths range from 2.4 to 15 in., cut-off length is 6.3 to 30 in., and the side gusset measures up to 2.8 or 3.2 in. with extra parts. The Matador has a job-memory system that lets operators store all parameters for a specific job that can then be recalled at a later time. The new NG model features faster changeover speeds compared to older systems in the co.’s line.

Diaphragm pump

Electronically controlled for precision use

The Model DD-1 diaphragm pump is automatically reversed by low-voltage, solid-state electronics. The electronic reversing control is not affected by normal wear characteristics of mechanical devices, co. says. It enables the pump to operate at reduced air pressure without hanging up and permits very slow cycling for applications where demand is low or when pumping viscous materials. When used for intermittent output, the pump will stop, then restart as the system requires.

Blown-film system

Seven-layer line shown at NPE 2006

Co. exhibited its new seven-layer blown-film system at NPE 2006 last month in Chicago. Equipped with advanced extruder, die, air ring, winder and control technology to improve production efficiencies, the line includes seven Super-Cooled MAC extruders with an air-volume system said to be more powerful than previous models. The cooling mimics the efficiency of water-cooling without the maintenance issues of water. The aerodynamic design of the extruder base contributes to the effectiveness of this cooling system, co. says. Connecting the extruders is a 14-in., seven-layer Lo Pro coextrusion die, and the system features an Integrator PRO supervisory controller and Model 1450 dual-turret film winder.

Protective coating

For pressroom surfaces

The Ezze-Peel™ is the printing industry’s first peelable protection for any stationary surface in the pressroom, including floors and ink pans. A coating applied to a surface before a press run to catch ink splatters, Ezze-Peel can be peeled away in one or more large pieces during post-work cleanup and disposed of as dried ink waste.

Air nozzle clusters

Reduce compressed-air use and noise

The Super Air Nozzle Clusters provide extremely high-blowing force suitable for long distances, wide area blowoff, drying and cooling applications. The nozzles maximize entrained airflow and force, while reducing compressed-air use and noise. The clusters are available with four, seven or 12 Super Air Nozzles. At full pressure or 80 PSIG, they have an air consumption of 56, 98 and 168 SCFM, providing a blowing force of 3.2, 5.7 and 9.8 pounds.
