Synthetic papers swatch book

Showcases full line of premium synthetics

Co. unveils a new swatch book to showcase its line of white, super smooth, waterproof, and tear- and chemical-resistant synthetic papers. It also displays the new UV-printable grade that requires no primer, as well as translucent grades. The book demonstrates a full range of applications for the synthetics including diecutting, embossing, spot gloss and varnishes.

Blown-film line

On display at NPE 2006

Co. will present a 63-in., three-layer VAREX blown-film line with the FILMATIC T dual-stacked turret winder at NPE 2006, June 19–23 in Chicago. The blown film line is equipped with the OPTIFIL P2 system for thermal gauge profile control, the MULTINIP oscillating haul-off with driven collapsing frame and side guides, as well as the K-NOSTIC non-capacitance guide.

Multilayer curtain-coating system

Polyetherimide film

Eliminates opaque topcoat for bar-code labels

In response to customer requests for an opaque, high-performance plastic film that would eliminate the need for surface treatments to achieve satisfactory print contrast in bar-code labels, co. developed a new white grade for its Ultem™ polyetherimide film. It is pigmented for high opacity to ensure bar-code labels can be read correctly, providing a print contrast ratio of 98 percent.

Cable converter

Go from flat to round

The VAZ-2T1-FK AS-interface flat-to-round converter features rugged one-part construction for use in narrow- and low-profile cable channels. In most applications, installation takes less than a minute, co. says. It is designed for use where AS-interface and 24VDC external power need to be on a single M12 connector, AS-interface drives with motor starters are used and for connecting AS-Interface sensors.

Eco-friendly

The LAMIFLEX E laminator features a compact design that is cost-effective and environmentally friendly, co. says. It uses a two-stand concept, the footprint has been shortened by 67 in. to free up floor space, and the unit operates at speeds up to 1,150 fpm. Unit uses a solvent-free adhesive to process a range of substrates including BOPP, PET, PE, LDPE, OPA, CAST PP, AL foil or paper.

Extrusion control

For auto-profile dies

Co. just released a newly designed electronics package to control extrusion dies that are auto-profile capable. The new hardware provides full backwards software compatibility with co.'s previous APC control cabinets. The new controller uses Opto-22 electronics with no special modifications and communications are made via RS-232, RS-422 or Ethernet. Packages are available to manage 32, 48, 64, 96 or 128 die bolts.

Priming/coating system

For water- or solvent-based fluids

Co. offers priming and coating units for water- or solvent-based fluids. One of its coaters offers a dual-nip roll system for top- and bottom-side coating at speeds up to 3,000 fpm. This unit can be retrofit into existing lines or offered as part of a complete priming or coating line. Co. also offers a two-sided coater for coating both sides of the web simultaneously.

High-intensity UV lamps

Uses ripple-free DC power supply

The Light Hammer 10 UV-curing lamp uses co.'s patented ripple-free DC power supply to ensure constant UV intensity, which results in higher scratch resistance, better flexibility and optical clarity. It features two modular components: a microwave-powered irradiator, which reduces infrared emissions, and solid-state power supply, which eliminates the need for HV transformers or capacitors.

Tension controller

Works with hot-melt adhesives

"Any-Pack" release liners are constructed using a 2-mil polypropylene substrate with a release coating that works well with hot-melt and pres-sure-sensitive adhesives. Die-bolt control system

Reacts immediately to out-of-spec film

The SMR 12 die-bolt control system is connected to a scanning QMS 10A system for continuous monitoring of film thickness or coat weight to control the profile of the extruded polymer film from an automatic die. This closed-loop control unit is able to react immediately if product specifications go outside the tolerance band.
