Fairview, NJ-based paperboard converter CARTONDRUCK USA expands its capacity and finishing capabilities with the fall 2005 installation of a new KBA Rapida 105 (Williston, VA) sheetfed-offset press. The 41-in., 11-station, 9-color system will help serve the company's major cosmetics customers, including L'Oréal, Estée Lauder and Procter & Gamble, among others.
The automated Rapida 105 press features eight printing units followed by two varnishing units, and one additional printing station. A full interdeck UV system provides fast drying and the ability to use hybrid UV inks. CARTONDRUCK is using the press to carve out a bigger share of the US market by offering more unusual finishing options. The ninth printing unit, for example, can apply a fine matte coating or an additional color to the coated sheets. "All customers of premium folding-box packaging will benefit from this addition, in the form of enhanced in-line finishing options and higher quality and efficiency," says Arndt Schuchardt, vice president of sales for CARTONDRUCK USA.
