Laser-engraving platemaker

To be shown at Labelexpo Europe 2005

The FlexPose!direct laser-engraving system and FlexPose! mask ablation system will be exhibited for the first time at Labelexpo Europe Sept. 21–24 in Brussels, Belgium. The FlexPose!direct 250L model is designed specifically for label applications, and can be used to engrave flexographic and letterpress plates, screens and sleeves. This is reportedly the only commercially available, combined flexo and offset, digital-platemaking system.

Automatic splicer

For high speed, low-tension applications

Co.'s model ECPLT is an automatic splicer for high speed, low-tension applications. It is available with a taped overlap splice unit or with tapeless (heatseal) lap or butt splice units. It can handle web widths up to 160 in., roll diameters up to 60 in. and has a maximum splicing speed of 1,500 fpm. The splicer features direct roll loading in upper and lower roll positions, an inertia-compensated tension control system and the ability to unwind rolls in either direction.

Microperforation systems

For film, paper, laminates and foil

The VentPerf needling tools and systems are made for micro-perforation and cutting of a variety of materials including film, paper, foil and laminates. Various designs are available and up to 600 holes per square inch are attainable at speeds up to 600 fpm. Hole sizes are adjustable and tools for virtually any pattern can be supplied. The VentPerf product line can be integrated into in-line processes or equipped with optional unwind and rewind for stand-alone operations.

Co. will add the Tru-Tech® line of durable paper products to its family of durable products. This new line is available in sheets and rolls, and features a wide range of tear-, moisture- and puncture-resistant products. Made of paper-poly-paper, it resists grease, water and oil, but prints and converts like paper. It is laser-printable as well. There are 10 grades in this line.

UV curing system

Debuts at Labelexpo Europe 2005

Co. will launch e-System, a new electronic UV curing concept, at Labelexpo Europe Sept. 21–24 in Brussels, Belgium. The e-System family is made up of UV curing lamps configured for specific tasks and an e-Brick power supply that increases UV power efficiency by at least 10 percent. The e-Brick power modules are offered in either a 9 kW or 12 kW output.

Coating and laminating extruder

With rear thermal expansion

The Model TL90 coating and laminating extruder comes with a rear thermal expansion feature. It is a 90-mm, 32:1 extruder that uses a fixed die position. It is designed to handle thermal expansion by moving backward on a custom-designed base. This extruder can be provided in any size and all units come with a stainless steel feed hopper and cast finned aluminum heaters with high-pressure blowers.

Bottom-seal bagmaking unit

Upgraded with servo drives

Co. introduces an upgraded version of its Model 4180 bagmaking machine. The newest model of the shuttle-motion, bottom-seal bag machine features a four-axis servo control, print registration and an advanced operator interface to improve efficiency. It also runs quieter, co. says. The servo motors and control package can be retrofitted to all versions of the bagmaking machine in operation.

Digital label finisher

Dryer

Sheeter

Unveiled at Print 05

Co. will demonstrate its largest in-line sheeter at the Print 05® Converting 05SM show, Sept. 9–15 in Chicago. The sheeter can be fitted to sheet-fed printing presses up to 51 × 73 in. wide. Sheet length is infinitely variable throughout the cutoff range with accuracies within +/- 0.015 in. of the desired setting. On a 40-in. repeat, the sheeter is able to run at speeds of up to 18,000 impressions per hour.
