Co. is introducing its METALSTAR® MFX® 06 9000 nl Standard Base Offset Silver, a non-leafing silver ink specially formulated for its Metal FX® printing process. This ink retains its brilliance level even when overcoated. When SABMiller wanted to promote its 330-mL longneck bottles of Miller® Genuine Draft in the South African beer market, it turned to Cincinnati-based IlloSpear for eye-catching labels. The combination of Illochorma (www.illochorma.com), Europe's largest manufacturer of cut-and-stack paper labels, and Spear's European Division (www.spearsystem.com), IlloSpear responded with a glow-in-the dark label that stands out in dark bars and nightclubs.

The UV-sensitive label glows under UV light, drawing consumers to the brand. The front label is a 2-mil biaxially oriented polypropylene with an emulsion adhesive on a 1-mil polyethylene terephthalate liner. It was rotary screen-printed in six colors at Spear's Cwmbran, Wales, facility using inks and UV coatings supplied by Sun Chemical Inc. (www.sunchemical.com). The back label is a two-ply white BOPP with a bottom ply that was UV-flexo-printed in two colors plus a cationic varnish.

The bottles will be circulating in key South African cities until October.
