Inspection Systems

Automatically flags web

The Graphic-Vision® RX300 enables converters to automatically inspect their entire repeat for printing defects. Using a high-resolution digital camera, the system can detect missing punctuation, register and color variations, and broken characters on webs traveling at speeds over 2,000 fpm. The RX300 alerts the operator to print defects and can automatically flag the web for defect removal.

Label numbering and simultaneous inspection

The flytec 100, a camera inspection rewinder teamed with an Imaje S7 inkjet printer for underside printing, allows label numbering to proceed simultaneously with inspection and control. Print defects and missing labels, when detected, are positioned in the operator's field of vision for rectification. The system is designed for final inspection, finishing and numbering of single-track label flows, at speeds up to 500 fpm. The system includes an option for reading bar codes and all popular codes with full Food and Drug Administration compatibility.

Statistical information also provided

Created to detect small defects at faster web speeds, the SMASH WEB Inspection System gives an early warning for defects like holes, contaminations, streaks and wrinkles. The 60 MHz line scan cameras and an ultra bright LED illumination provide high quality images of the defects. It gives statistical information for managing the printing process and increasing throughput. Co. also offers a rewind control system that automatically stops the rewinder at the location of a defect for removal.

Tracking system flags defects on web

The RollCode defect tracking system, when signaled by an operator or by input from any automatic inspection device, places a flag on the moving web to mark defects. It can flag webs moving at speeds over 2,000 fpm. The system records the location, then communicates with the downstream process equipment to automatically stop at each flagged location. The roll identification number and defect location information can be stored on a LAN, the RollCode Website or the converter's Website. This information can also be encoded into a bar code printed label and kept with the roll.

Inspection system employs three-chip camera

The PREMIUS digital 3 Chip is reportedly the first web inspection system to use a digital three-chip camera, which has a 4.2 megapixel resolution. It integrates digital-camera technology, a digital interface, three-chip resolution and a new extra-large field-of-view. Defect detection on the entire repeat can now be performed four times faster and the amount of material inspected is also improved by a factor of four.

Monitors fast-moving webs

Co. introduces a compact web viewer to help operators monitor print quality on fast-moving webs. The InPrint Video Inspection system integrates the camera, control panel and microprocessor into a single, compact housing. There are fewer components to install and all the cables have a connection on both ends to simplify the wiring process. 24x zoom and advanced features allow for prompt detection of the smallest variations in print or register settings. This allows the defects to be corrected before they appear on the final product.

Inspection system collects data automatically

Co.'s Surface Inspection System offers on-line inspection at high web speeds and automatic data collection and storage that complement the ISO 9000 program. Other features include real time process control, statistical evaluation of defect and calibration data, and a graphical user interface. The system is software aided and has automatic calibration.

System launches new process control platform

The PrintVision/Jupiter inspection system has a new process control platform for automatic print defect detection. Process control reduces waste by detecting defects before they can be seen by the naked eye. The moment a defect is detected, the relevant image of the printed area is displayed on the screen and a red alert switches on. All defects are marked and classified. This process control platform is applicable to any form of continuous web printing on gravure, flexo and offset presses. It can detect defects on paper, foils and flexible, translucent or opaque films.
