Web site for women in the technical world

By Laura McCluskey -- Converting Magazine, 1/1/2001

Attention all women! Are you looking for advice from other women in technical fields? Do you ever wish you had a mentor to teach you the ropes? Look no further than www.worldwit.org.

WorldWIT (Women in Technology) is a global online community for women in the technical world, including entrepreneurs, sales/marketing, consultants, educators, journalists, freelancers and attorneys. Providing a free resource for women, WorldWIT operates 26 list-servs around the globe for women to contact one another for information and advice.

Join a free local e-mail list in your area by clicking on Local Lists. Once you've signed up, you'll start receiving messages from the list you signed up for. What can be posted in your messages to others? Post a job opening at your company. Post your own search for the type of job you're seeking. Post a question that's bothering you within your industry.

Once you post a message, it will be sent to everyone on the list, then you just wait for responses to come swarming in. If you'd rather remain anonymous, that's possible too. If someone wants to respond to your message, you will see the response through a message to the anonymous message you posted.

What about privacy? Because WorldWIT is unable to screen subscribers immediately, be aware of the information you post in each message. WorldWIT will not sell, share or divulge subscriber information to outside parties, but if you choose to share personal information through a posting, do so at your own risk.

Want news within the technical industry? Go to News Bits where you'll find press releases and electronic references for WorldWIT, the global umbrella organization, and all local WIT lists.

This is a useful women's site for future career, training and education, as well as community support issues.
