Staff -- Converting Magazine, 12/1/2000
Wipf AG's "Dream Steam" micro-wave packaging from Switzerland won the first President's Award in the WorldStar 2000 competition.
Judged by member packaging institutes of the World Packaging Organization and the Intl. Packaging Press Organization, 176 packages from 27 countries overall were selected to receive prestigious WorldStar Awards this year.
"Each year the event is more and more interesting, this year especially with the introduction of the President's Award," says Sergio Haberfeld, chairman of Brazilian converter Dixie Toga and WPO president.
The Dream Steam is a disposable pressure cooker for the microwave oven. It includes a converted tray, lidding material and a special one-way valve. Fresh ingredients (fish, meat, vegetables) can be cooked in the microwave in 5 min. via the package's pressurized steam environment.
WorldStar winners will be formally honored at a ceremony April 2, 2001, at the British PAKEX trade fair. Judging was held recently in Gothenburg, Sweden, during the ScanPack show.
