SuperCorrExpo 2000 a hit with converters
Staff -- Converting Magazine, 12/1/2000
About 6,200 manufacturers of corrugated packaging (in every possible flute size) attended SuperCorrExpo 2000 at the Georgia World Congress Ctr. in Atlanta Oct. 23-28.
Organized by TAPPI and sponsored by AICC, the quadrennial, week-long event filled three exhibit halls, and included more than 350 exhibitors of machinery, equipment, materials and supplies for corrugated converting. Show-floor highlights included the debut of new alliance partners The Bobst Group, Roseland, N.J., and BHS Corrugated GmbH, Weiherhammer, Germany, in a joint 13,000-sq-ft booth.
Some of the more innovative developments on display: Barco Graphics' ColorBeam ink-jet printer option for Kongsberg XL samplemakers; Belcom North America's BEL2000 flatbed digital printer for POP displays using the Israeli Aprion Digital MAGIC technology; and the soft launch of PackageX.com-a collaboration Web site for package designers, converters and end users.
A Canadian converter won Best of Show honors in the 2000 CorrPak competition Oct. 23 at SuperCorr Expo. Mississauga, Ont.-based Central Graphics and Container Group took the top honor in the annual TAPPI-sponsored corrugated-packaging design contest with its creation of a self-shipper display for Campinor hard candies for customer Storck Canada. Central Graphics also won first place in the self-shipper display category.
