End product profile

-- Converting Magazine, 11/1/2000

Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Haviland Consumer Products, Inc., uses unsupported film printed by Ultra-Tech as pouches for its pool chemicals. Using their new Propheteer Intl. 10-in.-wide, seven-color press, Ultra-Tech runs the film at 130 fpm, with an Enercon Industries corona treater and special heat management and tension control. If the temperature is too high, the substrate will melt or shrink; if tension is too great, the material will stretch.

UV ink from Akzo Nobel is said to be perfect for the job, because it's durable and handles the harsh chemicals inside the pouch. "The manufacturers are just wild about [the ink]," says Ultra-Tech co-owner Mike Evans.
