Full speed splicing added to unwinds
The UW-2FCX series, with cantilevered dual position unwind with storage festoon, is the co.'s newest unwind. Its automatic tension control and storage can be specified up to 500 ft. It features full speed slicing capability, manual or automatic splicing and can accommodate up to 60-in. diameter rolls. The system has worked exceptionally well with hard to splice materials, co. says.

Rewinder transfers fold-free to new cores
The FilmMaster™ rewind uses PerfectStart™ splicing technology for fold free transfers to new cores, plus it winds very extensible, stretch-type film at 1000 fpm for a 50-in. web width. The roll is driven through the core and at the surface using a surface drum. Contact between roll and winding drum is kept throughout transfer to a new core to reduce or eliminate outer-wrap scrap, which the PerfectStart™ minimizes by eliminating tail fold-back. Speeds range up to 2,000 fpm, web widths to 130 in. and roll diameters to 45 in.

Shaftless unwind lifts rolls from floor
This shaftless unwind has Montalvo brakes and tension control components. It can lift rolls from the floor and reduces time needed to change up to 90-inch diameter parent rolls, which can weight up to 9,000 lbs. It can handle up to 100-inch web widths. Floor tracks are not required for installation and it has pneumatic, mechanical and taper core chucks. Also, the operator pendant hydraulic controls have NFPA cylinders.

Units work with existing and new machines
This co.'s unwinds and rewinds can be single position, single spindle unit or turret type systems with automated splicing and transfer capabilities in shaft and shaftless designs. They can work with existing machines or new ones, be cantilevered dual frame or lift arm, and use a tension or dancer roll system to handle tension control. Unwinds can be center braked, center or surface driven and rewinds can be center or surface driven or both. They are available from 1.5 in. to over 100 in. wide, with up to 72-in. diameter rolls.

Unwind/rewind offers configuration options
The co.'s unwind and rewind systems can accommodate up to 60-in. diameter rolls, widths up to 120 in. and weights up to 3,000 lbs. They offer single or multi-station in dual support pedestal and cantilevered configurations. They can be retrofitted to existing lines and incorporate co.'s web handling technology. Rotational dancers with non-contact position sensor, COR-LOK® air shafts, Pivotrac® web guides, Shaft-Lok safety chucks and idler rolls with Winertia® engineered aluminum tubing are other options offered with the unwind and rewind systems.

Unwind cuts debris-free
Co. enhanced its unwinds and winders for high-end, clean-room applications by including a debris-free interlocking knife system on the unwind. This system is designed for minimal tail length and on the fly changeover of unwinding direction. The winder has increased operating speeds and tool-less knife changes. The "Carousel" winder features a servo cutoff system that enables debris-free cutting of a variety of webs. It has no downtime, no fold-over and on-the-fly transfer.

Positioning stands provide accurate edge alignment
The Shifta-Roll positioning stands provide accurate edge alignment for unwind and rewind guiding, co. says. Electromechanical actuators and hydraulic cylinders power the stands, and they are able to handle loads up to 5,200 lbs. They feature two raceway bases, hardened race-rod supports and carrier blocks with ball or Teflon bushings. They can come with or without uprights or as raceway base assemblies.

Configurator presents shaft alternatives
The Ergonomic Configurator is the co.'s latest online tool for identifying lightweight shaft alternatives for unwinding, rewinding and slitting/rewinding applications. At the co.'s website, converters simply enter basic requirements for simple mounting styles—unwind or rewind, roll weight and web width—and the Ergonomic Configurator provides a carbon-fiber or aluminum external-element air shaft solution. The suggested shafts can weigh 50 percent less than those used now.
