Pnuematic core chucks added to series

In 3- and 6-in. sizes

The SDE Series of pneumatic core chucks has a new model, the SDE 16, which is available in 3 and 6 in., with a 4,400-lb. load capacity. It uses the co.'s original adapter collars for 15-sec. size changes to 4-, 5-, 6- and 8-in. cores. Most sizes are shipped from stock, custom configurations and other accessories are available.

Retort zipper line

Resists high temperatures

The Fresh-Lock® Zipper brand's line of polypropylene zippers for retort and other high temperature packaging applications uses a barrier design to reduce storage space and increase shelf life. It has a high surface to volume ratio, allowing heat to penetrate quickly and reduce retort time by 50 percent. The pp zippers are available for bottom-fill and top-fill applications, for stand-up or three-side pouch designs, and institutional sizes. It is designed for use in wet, moist or dry applications and can be modified to meet specific requirements.

Digital press

For paper and plastic

The Meteor DP30/69® digital press is ideal for any type of on-demand, short and medium size run, 4-color printing at 2,400 dots per inch and 150 lines per inch. It can print on paper from 64 to 300 gsm and on plastic from 4 to 13 mil of polyester. It also comes with an automated colorimetric calibration software program and the HP (high fidelity) raster generator allows for the modification of dot shapes and raster angles.

Digital color printer

For labels and tags

The co.'s VIPColor "Cool Fusion"™ Digital Color Printer model VP8020 uses the "Cool Fusion"™ color electro photographic technology, ideal for labels, tag and synthetic print production. The VP8020 can handle variable data content, like bar codes, and prints a continuous web of up to 25 letter size impressions per minute with a 600 × 1,800 dpi resolution in full color. It has a simple digital workflow and user interface that reduces time spent on set-up and cleaning. The VP8020 has excellent media handling flexibility, prints on a wide range of synthetic and paper-based materials of multiple thicknesses and is adhesive friendly.

RFID label printing system

Portable unit

Co.'s new "RFID-on-Wheels" unit contains an industrial cart, a radio frequency identification device (RFID)-enabled thermal transfer printer, EasyLabel software, communication cable and power strip. It is a fully capable label printer that can be moved around the facility without the need to disassemble and reassemble the components. The user needs to provide a personal computer or laptop to complete the system. RFID-on-wheels offer RFID transportability for customers with low to medium volume requirements in various locations of their facility.

Synchronous servo motors

Basic and advanced versions available

In order to eliminate end turns and maximize copper content, the IndraDyn S series of synchronous servo motors' poles are individually wound prior to stator assembly. This allows it to give the greatest power output in the shortest possible motor design. It is available in frame sizes and lengths to achieve torque ratings from 0.1 to 240 Nm. The larger motor sizes come with high- or low-inertia rotors and the basic version has Hiperface encoders delivering 128 increments per revolution and is made for standard applications. The advanced version has a high-resolution EnDat encoder that is capable of distributing 2,048 increments per revolution and is used for high-precision applications.

Tension control products

For unwinding and rewinding

Co.'s new tension control product line includes a strain gauge, linear variable differential transformer (LVDT) load cells and a closed loop tension controller. The controller provides control over unwinding and rewinding in web and strand processing applications. The strain gauge and LVDT load cells measure the tension of the product. All of the tension control products incorporate a WAVESAVER®, a C2® Electronic Calibration and a Secure Memory Module (SMM). It has an e-mail client feature, which automatically receives emails, text messages and pages when key events happen in the tension control. Hardy-Links Communications, which interacts with the process through keypad, plant network or Palm PDA, also comes with the line.

Slip differential shaft

In 3- and 6-inch diameters

The new internal slip design differential shaft combines precision-engineered rollers and locks with an internal slip clutch to guarantee that every core locks at the correct tension. Each core receives perfect tension every time, resulting in concentric rolls. This design allows numerous cores to be loaded and unloaded with ease. This air roll lock differential shaft comes in 3- and 6-inch diameters, in wide and narrow web lengths.

Heat-sealable OPP film

To replace foil and sealant in PPFP structures

Torayfan® PCFS eliminates the sealant extrusion coating step. This oriented polypropylene film is designed to replace the traditional foil and sealant combinations in paper-polyethylene-foil-polyethylene structures. It has a heat-activated sealant and the ability to flow into corners, channels and around small particles in the seal, eliminating the need for a PET sealant. The PCFS has excellent moisture and oxygen barrier durability and improved hermeticity. It is puncture resistant, has exceptional stiffness and improved dead-fold properties.

Product traceability system

Separates RFID tag from bar code

Two cos. worked together to create the product traceability system (PTS) for the deployment of RFID tags. It separates the RFID tag from the bar coded data, which enables both labels to be read independently. It also allows the manufacturer to place the RFID tag in the optimum read position while keeping it from interfering with the location of the bar code. This makes it possible to provide different levels of information in each tag.

Water and humidity resistant

The family of waterborne acrylic/-polyurethane pressure sensitive adhesives, NACOR® 38-503A, was designed to give excellent water and humidity resistance. They should be used for clear film over-laminating industrial tapes, decals, in prime label and graphic arts applications. These clear adhesives do not yellow upon extended exposure to UV light and have good coatability, mechanical stability and heat resistant traits. They provide good adhesion to low surface energy substrates.

Web inspection system

With "Smart System"

Co. introduces the SUPER HANDYScan 3000, PRO MARK Edition web inspection system with "Smart System" functions for greater press room efficiency. It features 450 lines of image resolution, a 127 × 101 mm field of view, 17-in. monitor, quick zoom and an eight-direction, dual-speed image navigation. The auto constant scan function allows the user to inspect portions or all of the print repeat area and the combi scan automates the print inspection process by combining all the desired inspection parameters.

White film

With high yield and opacity

The Rayoface™ VPA 260 is a top coated, high yield white label stock film that provides converters high whiteness and opacity. This "bubble" produced barrier pp film gives high machine direction stiffness and strength for high-speed conversion, improved die-cutting and reliable matrix stripping. It has a print receptive coating for better ink adhesion and resistance. It can be printed using all conventional ink systems and is designed for applications involving exposure to moisture in hot and cold environments.

Reduces dust volume

Co.'s says its new dust/small particle collector and densifier can reduce dust volume up to 10 to 20 times more than conventional dust handling methods. The unit can be fitted under the discharge of conventional cyclone collectors and can come with its own dust filter, return air unit and suction fan.

Process inks

For sheet label printers

The ProMark® process inks for sheet label printers are designed to print on a range of sheet label substrates, including recycled and low basis weight C1S stocks, with exceptional color sharpness and minimal dot gain. These inks can stay open in the fountain skin-free for up to seven days. They have practically no misting, even on high-speed presses, and have a wide ink and water window. The output is foil stampable, laser safe and can be coated with water-based or UV coatings.

Bag making machine

Reduces downtime

The CAPmat-Slider bag-maker features a computerized interface that allows converters to reduce downtime by 25 percent when changing between standard side-weld bags and other bag formats, co. says. The CAPmat-Slider also enables production lines to incorporate the QuickZip™ Slider zippers directly onto bags. The QuickZip is a slider for low-density PET bags.

Curing system

For multiple presses

This co.'s Optimum Inline Curing Systems can be installed on all flexographic, gravure and offset folding carton presses, and are available in widths from 10 to 110 in. The systems do not release volatile organic compounds (VOC) during the drying process and no chiller system is required for the lamp system. The elimination of the gas-fired oven, push control device and incinerator decreases capital costs of the press and operational costs of the converter, co. says.

Improves color density

The new Jetrion 3005 Inkjet system is a TIJ (thermal inkjet)-based product that allows water-based TIJ to print on and adhere to low- to medium-porosity substrates. With the co.'s new coating technologies, it can also improve color density and image durability, co. says. It enables users to have continuous inkjet or drop-on-demand, while being able to print on a variety of substrates.

The new Ropak™ 3A series of reusable, collapsible containers features a 32- by 30-in. footprint, load capacity of up to 2,000 lbs. and is available in 25-, 30-, 34- and 39-in. heights. The Sable Extreme CO2 laser, digital die cutter can run a printed web of labels, cartons and sleeves at speeds greater than 400fpm. Looking to meet customer demands, co. introduces a new, cantilevered positive displacement web guide designed to retrofit Mark Andy's 7-in. flexographic web converting systems. High-speed sensor

For high-speed applications

The Class 3R and class 3b Selcom® SLS 5000 non-contact sensors have an integrated sensor in the head and a built-in processor for data averaging and filtering. This single point, industrial gauging sensor is meant for high-speed applications, taking measurements up to 16,000 times a second. They have a date sampling rate of 16kHz, a measurement range of 0.24 to 39.4 in. and can be custom designed for particular OEM applications.
