Eastman Kodak Co., Rochester, NY, will become the sole owner of graphic-arts supplier Kodak Polychrome Graphics (KPG) through redemption of Ft. Lee, NJ-based Sun Chemical Corp.'s 50 percent interest in the joint venture. Completion of the deal, which will exceed $800 million in cash, is expected in April. Currently, Kodak and Sun Chemical each own half of KPG—a joint venture established in 1998. Kodak initially plans to operate KPG as a wholly owned subsidiary, part of the company's Graphic Communications Group.
The Harper® XLT™ anilox- and coating-roll laser system, the result of three years' intensive research and development by a team of 10 laser specialists, has been launched by Charlotte, NC-based Harper Corp. of America. The Harper XLT (Xtreme Laser Technology) is said to create performance levels and line-screen counts not achievable with current laser and ceramic surface technology. The research team explored methods to develop an anilox roll that would allow a single line screen to be used on both solids and fine process work.
Gujarat, India-based Mamata Machinery Pvt., Ltd., India's largest manufacturer and exporter of servo-driven plastic pouchmaking and bagmaking machines, establishes Mamata USA, Inc. The new American headquarters, located in Montgomery, IL (near Chicago), will serve the North, Central and South American packaging markets with the company's Vega Series servo-driven pouch- and bagmakers. Mamata USA will provide pre- and post-sales support, as well as stocking of parts for Mamata equipment.
