Focus: Folder/Gluers

Editor: Laura Butalla -- Converting Magazine, 5/1/2004

Folder/gluer for clear boxes

The new Vesta 800 POLY folder gluer is said to be the only folder/gluer designed for clear POLY boxes. It's said to eliminate many problems associated with folding and gluing POLY materials like PVC, PET, PP and APET. The Vesta's exclusive PURfect glue system produces a very thin, precise PUR glue lamination, which uses 50 percent less PUR than conventional extrusion glue systems. The PURfect glue system works on all types of POLY boxes, including straight-line, auto-bottom, small box, tapered and pocket folders. Folder/gluer with less tooling

The Signature Elite folder/gluer is similar to its family line—the Signature family. New features include increased speed up to 550 m/m, a wider variety of cartons that can be run on it, and increased overall backfold speed for more consistent production speed. Other options include belted six-corner folding unit to prevent scuffing by using a belt to fold carton; improved feeder with pneumatic feed gate for fast changeover and blank removal; and pneumatically operated drop-down lower center carrier with lift-up top center carrier which permits narrow width blank production without any part removal. Gluer for folding cartons

The Diana Pro family of folding carton gluers are said to permit reliable processing of a virtually unlimited range of applications: straightline, miniature, conical folding; lockbottom cartons with and without prefolding; double-wall cartons with single and double folding; as well as partition cartons, record sleeves, envelopes, CD covers, four-and six-corner collapsible boxes, and other specialty carton types and sizes. Special features on these models include extension module for high productivity and universal use, flexible folding station, feeder with servo-drive, video monitoring of the transfer station, DIAlog process control for easier setting and operation, and DIAset positioning. Side-seam glue station

This co. offers an all-electric, bottom-up glue station said to replace folding carton glue pots. This bottom-up glue station is said to require less maintenance than glue pots and eliminated glue-pot refills. The electronically-controlled, enclosed station enables the use of a wider variety of adhesives, including high-performance formulas. It can be combined with a number of controls including the co.'s VC350AG auto-glue control featuring an auto-glue mode that will automatically set the glue pattern length for the product being run. Automatic folder/gluer

The Unifold automatic folder/gluer is built with a rugged construction that starts with a 2 x 2 in. welded tubular steel frame. The buckle fold unit, final fold unit, TransTable converting unit and stacker unit are all portable, which allows for multiple configurations and applications, reports co. The new UniFold now features a vacuum feeder segmented table, enabling increased versatility in job setup, by the removal of 2 in. table segments to accommodate transTable components; revolving fold roller position lock to save time during setup when utilizing the vertical buckle fold plate; hand wheel for the vacuum feeder, allowing the user to manually advance or reverse stock when setting up a job; and guarding for the vertical buckle fold plate.
