Pollution-control systems and unwinds & rewindsPollution-control dryer
The new FLEXfilm UV processor, a curing system for printing flexible packaging materials and heat-sensitive substrates, features an open base UV lamp facing a water-cooled chill roll. Designed for easy installation on all types of flexo presses, this new FLEXfilm system can be installed interstation on an in-line web press, or after the coating station on a CI flexo press. This new system is said to ensure the complete cure of heavy coverage UV inks and guarantees that web temperature will remain at ambient temperature. FLEXfilm UV is said to fit easily in between color units on all CI flexo presses, and can be installed as a retrofit on all CI web presses running flexible films. Integrated pollution-control systems
This co. has the capability of supplying pollution-control systems that can be integrated into your existing drying systems, as well as complete turnkey systems with the co.'s drying equipment. This co. can supply catalytic, thermal and regenerative systems complete with controls to satisfy specific process requirements. For example, this co. packaged a hot-air oven with a regenerative oxidizer to handle approximately 50,000 SCFM at an average temperature of 125 deg F. The solvent-laden exhausts were generated by a 150-ft. dual impingement arched hot-air dryer with five zones of temperature control. The system is designed to dry solvent-based coatings on polypropylene film. Radiant Energy Systems, Inc., 800/486-7786, fax: 973/423-5228, www.radiantenergy.com
Regenerative thermal oxidizer
This co. provides a Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO) that destroys HAPs and VOCs that are discharged in industrial process exhausts. This system achieves VOC destruction through the process of high temperature thermal or catalytic oxidation, converting the VOCs to carbon dioxide and water vapor, reusing released thermal energy. Compact regenerative thermal oxidizer
Regenex™ is a new line of regenerative thermal oxidizers to destroy VOCs in manufacturing process exhaust streams such as drying solvent based coatings and adhesives on webs. Regenex systems are said to combine the benefits of high heat recovery and process application flexibility in a compact, adaptable package and can achieve guaranteed VOC destruction efficiencies of 99+ percent. This new line is ideal for low VOC concentration applications where a catalyst cannot be used because of catalyst-destroying chemicals in the solvent mixture, reports co. Regenex oxidizers consist of two or three heat-exchange beds connected by a common combustion chamber. The heat exchange media allow air to pass while serving as a mass to store heat. The airflow through the heat exchange beds is reversed at regular intervals to conserve the heat of combustion within the RTO. Glenro, Inc., 888/453-6761, fax: 973/279-9103, www.glenro.com 3
Photoionization monitor
The compact 2020PRO™ photoionization monitor is a hand-held and portable instrument used for detection and measurement of VOCs. This portable instrument provides users with onsite, rapid VOC detection in air, water and soil, reports co. The 2020PRO features a new enhanced graphical display so data can be easily read, as well as larger keys for menu access when wearing triple-layer gloves. Outfitted with a new, dedicated calibration key, the 2020PRO allows for immediate access to the calibration procedure with more prompts to walk users through the calibration process. RTO with patented switch valve
The CLEANSWITCH™ RTO offers 99+ percent VOC destruction efficiency as standard without flush chambers, reports co. The key is the co.'s patented switch valve that keeps treated air totally separate from dirty process exhaust. No significant amount of untreated air escapes when flow direction changes. By eliminating the "puff" of untreated air, the CLEANSWITCH RTO eliminates the need for flush chambers. For many applications running under normal operating conditions, the unit will run in a self-sustaining mode, meaning no additional fuel is required to destroy VOCs and achieve clean air compliance. Optional equipment to further increase the energy efficiency of the process is available including recirculation systems, hot-side bypass and secondary heat recovery. Unwinds & rewinds
This co. offers units that can be simple single-position, single-spindle units or turret type systems complete with automated splicing and transfer capabilities in shaft type or shaftless designs. They can be designed to work on existing equipment, or they can be part of a new machine line. Unwinds can be center braked, center driven or surface driven. Rewinds can be center or surface driven or a combination of both. The available sizes are from 11/2 in. to over 100 in. wide with roll diameter up to 72 in. Narrow web rewinder
This co. released its newest addition of Doctor Machines® - the Model 142 Jr. Designed specifically for the narrow-web market, the Model 142 Jr is capable of winding a wide range of products from light gauge extensible films to pressure sensitive label stock. Available in single direction or reversible models, this rewinder utilizes the latest in drive and control technology making it capable of running extremely light tensions, reports co. With a web-width of up to 10 in. and unwind/rewind diameters to 24 in., the 142 Jr operates at speeds up to 1,500 fpm with roll weights up to 200 lbs. Powered by a two-motor AC vector drive system, this machine features full touchscreen control, a splice table, trimming, a dancer-position tension control and the option to add video inspection. Slitter/rewinder
The new Model 15000 duplex slitter/rewinder is integrated with a dual-roll handling system for slit rolls up to 60 in. in diameter. After the rolls are rewound, dual lift tables support the roll weight. The heavy outboard arms pivot away. The rolls are stripped away from the shafts by the lift tables where they are married on to a single roll handling up-ender/cart. The fully loaded cart is driven 30 ft where the slit and rewound rolls are upended on pallets and stored on a driven conveyor. The 15000 is designed for speeds up to 2,500 fpm and roll weights to 6,400 lbs. Paper, nonwovens and laminates are typical web products easily handled by this model.
