Infrared array edge detector

For guiding

This co. introduces a new patent-pending digital infrared (IR) edge detector designed for use with light nonwovens, mesh and paper. This new IR detector employs an array of infrared sensors that continually monitors lateral web position and ambient conditions. It automatically compensates for passline variations and web flutter as well as interference from dust and other contaminants. This technology assures precision guiding while eliminating the need for continuous maintenance and manual calibration, says co. The infrared detectors interface with the co.'s Micro 1000® and Micro 4000® NET controllers. AccuWeb, Inc., 608/223-0625, www.accuweb.com

Precision machine

With ease of operation

The Leesona #950 Take-Up Machine is rebuilt to customer specifications. Designed to deliver optimal productivity while reducing expensive labor requirements, this equipment is also said to improve package consistency while offering ease of operation. Standard features include frame assembly, gear train assembly for precision winding, compensator control for ease of removal and adjustment of material, adjustable tension control, material break limit switch and a preset speed function as component of the drive chassis. UV-curable inks

For non-porous substrates

The new DURACURE™ UV-curable inks are formulated specifically for use on a variety of non-porous substrates including plastics, films, laminated boards and foils. This ink system utilizes state-of-the-art resin and photoinitiator chemistry to provide press performance and adhesion required in a wide range of applications where durability is said to be especially important. DURACURE inks are designed to provide superior transfer, dot fidelity, and press stability as well as exceptional scratch and scuff resistance, says co. Application software

For sizing requirements

This co. now offers two new online tools to assist in the selection and operation of torque and tension control components. The new application software enables users and distributors to quickly determine the sizing requirements for brakes, clutches and load cells. While this software doesn't select the product for the user, a summary sheet details the pertinent information so the user can apply the "calculated" output and select a model number. Web site links and references to current literature are said to provide easy resources for more information. Also available online is an interactive demonstration of CYGNUS, the latest tension control technology from this co. End users can experience the ease of weightless load-cell calibration by walking through the control module as well as walk through common setup and operation screens. Caliper brake

Spring-actuated

The VC500 is a compact, single post, spring-actuated caliper brake that provides high braking torque and works with discs of various sizes. This brake has a compact footprint area, which is said to be ideal for installations where space is a premium. Customers can expect zero reduction in brake torque over the life of the friction facings due to the rear amplifier linkage design. Software tool

To locate patterns

PatFlex is the co.'s newest member of the PatMax® family of geometric pattern-finding technologies. PatFlex is a patent pending software tool that enables a vision system to locate an object, feature or pattern whose perspective has changed or whose surface is curved, warped, wrinkled or stretched. By finding and then correcting for these types of distortions, PatFlex enables the full range of the co.'s vision tools to be applied. Cognex Corp., 508/650-3000, fax: 508/650-3333, www.cognex.com

Radiation head

With water-cooled housing

The new UVITERNO radiation head is equipped with water-cooled housing on which a water-flooded IR-filter can be mounted. This is said to be an alternative to the air-cooled UV-drying system. The co. says the advantage of this radiation head, compared to all conventional systems, can be found in the non-application of a water-cooled vacuum table which in turn, leads to the avoidance of well-known problems like abrasion in foils, etc. UVITERNO AG, 0041/71-747-4151, fax: 0041/71-747-4161.

Oscillating hauloff system

A horizontal unit

The H-nip is a new horizontal oscillating hauloff system able to randomize even the most minor die, air ring, and tower film gauge effects, reports co. There is zero film contact on the turning bars, which minimizes any tendency to form stretch wrinkles. The new design has a substantial base-mounted support bearing taken from the Traversanip Vertical oscillating hauloff. The stable base and lower support bearing prevent the occurrence of nip roll "sway," commonly seen in some horizontal nips that utilize an overhead bearing.
