Power supply units

Meet tension-control applications

This co. introduces a new option in current-regulated power supply. The advanced design features of the PS-24 and PS-90 power supply units provide precision control in unwind, rewind or intermediate tension-control applications. The reverse current feature minimizes drag torque, allowing for use of the full torque range of Magnetic Particle Clutches and Brakes. They can be used alone as a manual control or with automatic tension controls to maintain tension throughout the entire roll build. Units include convenient DIN rail mounting and are CE compliant, UL and cUL listed. MAGPOWR, 636/343-5550, fax: 636/326-0608, www.magpowr.com/ps

Offset-print blankets

Compressible intermediate layer

Topaz® Carat blankets are specially designed as the all-rounder blanket for offset printing, reports co. They are distinguished by a new compressible intermediate layer that, together with the highly resistant surface layer, is said to guarantee a long service life and have outstanding printing results. Topaz Carat can be used in high-speed sheetfed offset, as well as package and metal printing. The new surface layer is swell-resistant and can stand up to switching between UV and conventional inks. Portable stroboscope

With phase capability

The new Cat. No. 21G23 portable stroboscope is available with AC (110 or 220 volts) internal or external DC battery power. Ranges of this unit are 100-30,000 flashes/min with an accuracy of +/-0.01 percent of reading. Digital readings are updated every 0.2 seconds on internal mode, every second in external mode. A push-button activation enables the user to divide or multiply readings by two. The stroboscope features phase shifting and a delay feature, external trigger and synchronous output signal. Kernco Instruments Co., Inc., 915/852-3375, fax: 915/852-4084.

Vision inspection system

A self-learning machine

The enhanced Eye-Q, a self-learning machine vision inspection system for cap, closure, bottles, tubes and print quality control, uses a unique, patented image-processing technology that requires no programming and allows high-speed inspection accuracy. The Eye-Q analyzes a flawless product in an artificial intelligence-driven memory, then recognizes and discards all further parts that deviate from this learned reference group, says co. Tamper-evident band and printing defects are also detected. IC Vision, 514/336-7724, fax: 514/336-7764, www.ic-vision.com

Diameter shafts

For small presses

This co. introduces its small-diameter shafts. These shafts are said to accommodate virtually any size web. They are designed for small-diameter printing presses, tape and label slitters, and coating and laminating machines. The shafts run in diameters from 7/16 to 2 in. Convertech Inc., 973/328-1850, fax: 973/328-7256, www.convertech.com

Production software

For flexible packaging

TORI-FLEX 6.14 is the newest version of this co.'s software designed to offer performance enhancements to extruders, printers and converters of plastic flexible packaging. The new release's features include the ability to accurately estimate the cost of multilayer bags. Other new features offer improved barcode shipping by pallet, a full purchasing module, user customizable quotes and work order reports, as well as state-of-the-art data-mining module for sales and production statistics. Knife cartridge

Dual rotary

The new DirEXcut™ dual rotary knife cartridge has a unique design that allows the knife cylinder cartridge to be installed as a stand-alone component in an existing sheeter knife or as part of a complete new knife including a slitting station and pull/draw roll assembly. Cutting blades can be resharpened while still mounted on the knife cylinders via a lapping and tuning process, making it easier to maintain proper cut quality, says co. Non-proprietary components are used throughout the knife to simplify maintenance and part replacement. Webex, Inc., 920/729-6666, www.webexinc.com

AC drive

With low voltage

The new ACS 800 DriveIT low-voltage AC Drive family is said to provide programming power and flexibility in a new enclosure design that makes it easy to use the drive across the full range of industrial applications and markets. This new drive is available in NEMA 1 or NEMA 12 enclosures. All units are designed in a bookshelf style and range from 6.5-in.-wide, low-Hp designs up to freestanding 600-Hp units that measure only 13.78 in. wide. The freestanding enclosures of the drives and range of 150-160 Hp can turn to fit into deep, narrow spaces or wide, shallow spaces.
